Default Help identifying possible pinto

I just purchased a gun collection and this revolver was part of it. I am new to the revolver world and found it unusual that this gun was two toned. After further internet searches, it has brought me here to the people who know smiths best. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
This will not be much help but the gun looks right to me. The thing is with pintos you really need a factory letter to confirm the gun left the factory that way. Once you have the letter confirming it the value will go up.
A factory letter will cost you $50 and a long wait.

What caliber is it?

Welcome! It is similar to other two-tone ("pinto") Kit Guns that have been discussed here, down to the smooth rosewood stocks. A factory letter would confirm this but I would guess it will letter as original:

Sorry for the very late post. I did get a letter back, and it dates to 7/54 to Rex firearms as a two tone.

Very cool.

A note about pintos, I don't know if this was included in the letter or not:

Many Pintos are seen in the 1953 era as part of the 100th anniversary commemoration.

“The production records for the .22/32 Kit Gun Model of 1953 do not show any special group of pintos being produced. The notes from the production coordinator list the production process for pintos is to take a finished gun from stock and change the finish on the barrel and cylinder, not to build them from unfinished revolvers. When I was handgun product manager we built some pintos from parts at the end of the fiscal year to reduce inventory. Since the pinto finish is the original finish used by S&W going back to the Model 1 it has always been a traditional finish used by S&W.” Roy Jinks, S&W Historian

Your #4547 is now 1 of 6 known. See this thread about pintos:

Wow! I don't know what was in that collection, but this piece could recoup an inordenent return on investment. Will you be my business manager? I have pretty near $153 to invest. My Grandpappy gave me the first $100 and I would like to invest that in a 1 of 7 known Pinto's - if it's not too much trouble. Call me.
Thank you,
