Default Victory old style hammer block

Project is an ex-Aussie Navy Victory in 38 S&W cal. All matching except grips. Marked FTR/MA55. Tear down and inspection revealed that the hammer block was MIA. It is the old style that is staked into the sideplate. I located a new-old-stock replacement and hoped it would "drop in". Not quite. Fits in OK, but when the hammer is cocked, it is not forced back into the sideplate far enough for the hammer to clear. Hammer can not drop at all. Is there a secret to fitting? Note: I replaced the hand to correct timing. It was also NOS and the proper type with the "wing" to act on the block. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Make sure that the tab on the side of the hammer block isn't catching on the edges of the slot as it is depressed. Other than that, no ideas.

Welcome to the forum.

There were no "drop in" parts in those years, although some may. As a new part, the "flag" on the hammer block is undoubtedly left a bit long to be individually fit to each gun. It likely needs fitting/shortening to work properly.

Thanks all, I will give that a try. This is my first attempt to work on a five screw. I am more familiar with the later system ('70's & '80's guns mostly). While investigating my problem, I found references to dirt or dried oil causing the block to fail. It does seem weak and I see why it was changed.
