Default New grab.

I frame .32, s/n 291xxx. Decent bore, little slow on timing. Don't think I did too bad for $190.... Approximate date of shipping and any other information is appreciated.

That is a 32 Hand Ejector, Third Model, shipped around 1919. It looks well used but not abused. I love the 6" barrel length on this model.

When did they start heat treatment of the cylinders on I frame revolvers?

I believe around 1914, but your revolver should be heat-treated by 1919. Really makes no difference if you are going to shoot standard 32 Long factory ammo or using mild reloads. The ammo works fine in either era guns.

Cylinder heat treating started at serial number 321000 in 1920 in the Third Model run.

Thanks for that Stu. I just went to add your information to my notes on the I frame and found that I already had that data. Should have looked first.

Standard stuff is all I ever reload. Maybe some "32 Colt New Police " loads using 100gr bullets, but nothing drastic.

Is this a Regulation Police, or was that title applied later?

As I understand it, almost all Regulation Police revolvers had a stepped butt-frame and extended stocks. The serial number for Regulation Police revolvers is on the front of the butt-frame instead of the bottom like Model 1903 guns. Other than that, both were the same and were made in the same serial number range. The images show a 32 Regulation Police from the 1920s. Note the serial number location and the step in the rear of the butt-frame.

The 32 Regulation Police started around the 263,000 serial number in 1917.

Yours likely shipped around late 1919 by interpolating some other SNs on my list.

Cool. Do any of these letter to police departments?

And in other news, I saw an RP at the gun show today. $245 OTD, including the $10 background check.
