Mystery K frame pre war RB stocks..help?
Here is a set of K frame stocks I acquired today from a forum member. We both think they are pre war. even pre 1930. But I find nothing that these would fit. I cannot identify them in SCSW 3rd Ed. Can someone tell what these would have been made for? Are they real..as in OEM SW stocks?
Thanks for your help.. I bought them as they are unusual and I like a good mystery.
Stumped,
Mike

They look like K frames, except for the escutcheons. Either they've been replaced or the stocks could be from one of the Spanish made S&W copies.
A pic of the inside might give a better clue....
*P.S., the more I look at them, I'm more inclined to think these aren't genuine S&W stocks. The border of the checkering at the bottom isn't quite right...

What are the measurements ? Make a tracing of their routine on a piece of paper and write in the dimensions, length , width, etc. Photo the tracing and post here. Are the screw threads S&W's thread pitch ? What's on the back sides ? I agree they do not strike me as S&W stocks, but I can't rule it out until I know the dimensions. Ed.

The basic style of those is correct for a round-butt K-Frame from ca. 1920-1928/30. But, they just don't "look right"! The tops are too flat, not convex enough, and the wood doesn't look correct for S&W. My money is on these coming from a Spanish counterfeit revolver from the 1920s time frame.

Agree. There were tons of Spanish near copies built pre WW II.

Agree that they are not S&W.
The Diamond is too long and the escutcheons are different than factory

They look small?? Is there a serial number stamped on the inside of the right stock?? I have always wondered if the factory ever made any wood 1920s I frame stocks?? S&W books do not list any walnut stocks for the 38 Safety, 5th or the 32 HE, 3rd but wonder if any were special ordered or made?? I just cannot help thinking that I have seen wood stocks on one of those models??
If you have a round butt I frame, check out the fit. Still, most likely a copy, due to the way the escutcheons look.

Supporting the belief they are not S&W and likely a Spanish copy, here are K square butt grips on an ALFA M&P that is clearly marked "Made in Spain".

Agreed! Foreign of some sort, not S&W.
I see signs of over-run into the border from the checkering. S&W would never have let something like that out of their shop....

K-frame Stocks
I vote Spanish manufacture. I have the exact same pair in my stash of grips, I bought them for $25 at a gun show and they do not fit any of my K-frame S&Ws.
