38/44 HD 6 1/2" blue with number "106" stamped below the Made in USA
This revolver was hand delivered to Boston by Douglas Wesson sometime after December 7, 1933 per Jink's letter. There are no records in the SWHS. Does anyone have any knowledge of Boston PD records that may show if this was used by them? I haven't approached the BPD about their records as I was told that those records may no longer be available. If I have no luck here, I am going to Boston this summer and will stop by the police headquarters. Thanks for any help.

Boston PD may have a historain to approach. Otherwise, likely has a public affairs/PR person. You might ask in a nice way whether a Freedom of Information Act request would gain any traction. Likely to walk softly best and see if that could help facilitate rather than as a big stick; such even if an FOIA request would be appropriate under any circumstance.
I have no answers here, only to conjecture.
Just my take

I believe that the barrel length is 5". I doubt that they have any records on their firearms that far back and it could have gone to any other PD in the Boston area. Good luck in your research.

Interesting. I own this and have measured the barrel. Are you suggesting someone took a 5" new and replaced with a 6.5 inch?
Concerning originality in finish; there is no doubt this is original. Here are close up pics of the barrel text that show factory blu grains.

MVPAL, I was referring to the OPs gun which I once owned. Your gun is righteous which I posted in your thread.

Bill, you are correct. The barrel length is 5". My bad.

Chances are the gun went out on an advertising account and no department was noted in those records.
