What was on there before?

Looks like you have an original 4" barrel on yours. You should get a letter to confirm. I think I read somewhere that only about a hundred Triple Locks were ever manufactured that were nickel and came with a 4" barrel.

The pictures show one that I have, which letters with a 4" barrel, although not as nice as yours.

The correct stocks really make!

I realize it's been re-nickeled, but was it originally a nickel gun?

I like it.

It looks like an aftermarket nickel finish. Check the serial number located inside of the ejector rod shroud. If it has a small "B" prefix, it was shipped from the factory with a blue finish.

Looking good. It took me years to find the correct stocks for mine. Nice grips make the gun for me. Mine is an old 5 inch and well used as most of them are. I paid as much for the grips as I paid for the gun; but, I did buy it back in 1979.

Yes, as others suggested, an old renickel, just like mine (except yours was done more professionally). So a factory letter will tell more...

That's surprising as the front sight looks original as factory installed. I would have believed it to have been original, without careful inspection. Can you post other views, and close-up shots of the sight so we may examine and learn from this example?

Thank you. Now it is obvious that the front sight has been removed and relocated.

Also, in hindsight, it was obvious that this was not an original 4" barrel. The reason why is that the barrel markings are in the proper location for a longer barrel. Compare this to my revolver, which letters with a 4" barrel (although difficult to read due to previous refinish(es)). The markings of this revolver obviously differ from those of the original poster's revolver.

My Triple Lock is likewise cut to 4" and aftermarket nickeled, and wears real mother of pearl stocks (overexposed here). It letters as originally a 6.5" blue gun with walnut stocks, shipped in 1916 to NYC. It didn't stay there because inked on the inside of the stocks and scribed on the sides of the grip frame are references to a Sheriff Wm Deaton of Alva, OK.

Apparently Sheriff Deaton really liked his S&Ws to be 4" nickel with pearl stocks! I bought my gun from a forum member in North Carolina in 2009.

mrcvs, is there anything written on the inside of your pearl stocks?

Unfortunately, no previous owner inscription on the inside of my mother of pearl grips. I guess I can't cash in on this one as having once belonged to Wyatt Earp.
