Info needed on a 32 long
hello all, first time poster to this forum. I recently inherited a couple of S&W's from my father, still would rather he had kept them awhile longer.
The item in question is a 32 long ctg. engraved with the serial number 22188. I've attached pictures, please let me know if you need additional details. Anything you can share would be helpful.

Sorry for your loss. Your father was obviously a man of great taste.

Not only engraved, but gold inlay. Your rev. deserves a lot more pics and research. Just do me a favor, keep Pops gun. I have all of my Dads guns since he passed two years ago at 95 yrs. Best

Actually, you don't need to keep all of them. You can if you want. I have none of my fathers guns. I moved then right along to my sons. We had different tastes in guns. Nothing wrong with is, but I think mine are better. Besides, my sons like having grandpa's guns.

Welcome to the Forum. That is a Model 1903, 1st Change, shipped in 1905. It could very well be an important or historic I frame revolver. Not many were engraved with gold inlays plus had ivory stocks. Please consider getting a factory letter and you might be pleasantly surprised to find where it went and/or to whom it was shipped.

That is an outstanding very important collectable. You have to get a letter, and be sure to enclose pictures of the engraving when you request the letter. Roy is on vacation presently bet will be back in a couple weeks. Might be the most important $50 you ever spent.

Thank all for both the condolences and advice. I too passed on many of my fathers to his grandsons, I kept a few that had significance for me, one .270 Winchester that sports a stock carved by my grandfather, some day my son will receive that one, but not yet... I believe I saw the process for getting letter on a sticky somewhere and I will definitely be doing that, thank you so much to all of you.

Welcome to the forum.
That's an heirloom of the first caliber!
It's officially a "Model .32 Hand Ejector" produced in 1904.
And as glowe posted, more specifically collectors call it the Model 1903 -1st Change.

Next up
Perhaps you can direct me to the right forum on this next piece, it's definitely newer than the 32. Model 14 on the yoke, I'm guessing K frame, serial number, on the butt, K 365456, I'm wondering if the engraving is from the factory. Again, thanks for your help in this search. Oh, and 38 spcl.

okie61.
It's gorgeous, you're dad must have preferred engraved Smiths.
You're in the correct forum, you K frame is from 1959, but start a new thread. You'll get a lot more replies.
A factory letter is the only way to verify factory engraving. Any engraved gun is worth the $75 for the letter. Although the form is still listed at the website, they will not be accepted:

Price check - changes in the letter process are forthcoming and will now be $75. Still well worth the cost for both your guns.
