Yep sure looks like an early 50's K-22 Masterpiece to me. The target grips belong to a much younger k frame. Looks like that serial is from 1953 time frame. Somebody else will be able to narrow it down more.

It's a 5 screw K-22.

It appears to be a narrow rib version (with a 4 line address) which puts it from later 1948 to earlier 1950's. Its serial number says it was made in 1953----probably later 1953. It's grips came along quite some time later. It is known as the finest .22 caliber target revolver ever made.

Yes it is and your photos show all five of them. s/n K2118xx shipped 2/55.

The five screws ran until about 1955. Yours just made it looks like.

Thanks, everyone for the quick responses.

I'm not a collector, so this K-22 and the 53-2 that I have will be looking for a new home.

Question

I'm not sure how your grips are being dated without seeing the front side ?

That SN is highly likely to be a 1954 shipment, but could be later. K175,638 – K210,095...1953 (manufacture). Target grips are post-1969, when the diamond around the grip screw holes was eliminated.

The KT number ink-stamped on the inside was a dead giveaway. They were not doing that during the non-relieved era.

Also it was pretty obvious they were made of Goncalo Alves.

Nevermind when the management order was issued. The four screw K frames didn't show up until 1956. It is similar to the situation with model numbers. The decision was announced in early summer, 1957, but model marked guns did not start shipping until 1958.

Looks like the OP serial reads K 208768 or K 209768.

Actually it's a "trigger shoe"---a popular accessory of the time (not so much any more). The good news is it comes right off---no fuss, no muss, and no bother-----------just as long as you don't mind the two tiny little marks left by the retaining screws.

The KT 357 would be GA as on a model 19.
KT 38 would be walnut as on a 14 or 17
They were inkstamped in the diamond years hence the question.
