Who Made the Grips?Non-Reg. Mag joins the collection-
I was at the Colorado Gun Collectors show yesterday and was able to find my newest addition for my collection. It is a Non Reg Mag sn-60857. I was able to learn it was shipped on Jan. 30,1940 to the Kansas City PD. Even better Jan.30th is my birthday(some years later). It had a set of Herrett stocks on it when I bought it and later in the day I found this nice set of Roper's(not) that it now wears. They are a bit shiny with too much varnish but that will soon change. It went back to the factory twice, once in 1945 and again in 1971. I had a great day at the show. Hope you like as much as I do.

My guess is that your .357 Magnum could tell some great stories!!! If only you "spoke revolver"...
Congrats on a great addition to your collection.

Jim: I have a sister gun to yours, shipped 1/30/40 which shows it was refinished in 5/47. Curiously, mine wears high horn early post war stocks--maybe replaced by the factory at the time of refinish? Mines is SN: 6094x. Picked it up in Tulsa this past April.

Wow! we now have three birthday Reg (or Non-Reg) Magnums listed here on the forum. That is another sweet LEO magnum from days past.
Thanks for sharing Jim!

I am with Kris on this one, I don't think those are Roper's. They are nice though.

I also have one of the KCPD non-RMs which has been severely abused. It went back to S&W at least once within its first 5 yrs. of life. Since then it seems to have been buffed with a belt sander. I was contemplating a complete refurbishment when the Chicoine operation dissolved. My gun doesn't appear to have ever got any respect.

Not sure but I get the feeling from looking at them that they were made much later than the pre war era.
They sort of resemble the work of Steve Jessee, Schofieldkid81 on this forum. He made some Roper style grips and they had the skinnier ribbon on them, like this set. Can you show any pics from the back?

That's a nice Magnum! One of the better looking KCPD guns I've seen. A lot of them really got thrashed over the years. Those grips are beautiful no matter who made them!
