Need Help!! S&W Identify
I have a S&W .38 special CTG Revolver that I'm not sure the model or manufacture date. It was given from a fellow worker who passed.
Its in terrific condition, looks like it was hardly ever shot.
5" barrel, S&W 38 Special CTG on the barrel. Serial numbers C 210080 matching. Can anyone tell me what I have here. Thanks kindly.

A photo would really help. Based on s/n it may be a Model 10, 11 or 12 from around 1948-1951.

...and welcome to the forum.
Does it look anything like one of these two?
both of these are 4" barrels. The first is a 10-7 the second is a 10-8.

Not familiar with the older S&W Revolvers.

The model number is located inside the crane on the frame. Open the cylinder and it's just under the barrel on the frame.

Welcome aboard.
That's a beauty, has to be and is a ".38 Military & Police Post War" (sometimes referred to as a pre model 10; Model 10 designation didn't happen until 1957). It's not an alloy frame so can't be a Mod 12 which wasn't introduced until 1952. Nor a model 11 if it's stamped .38 S&W Special on the barrel.
A Model 10-7 is a newer model from 1977.

Not until late 1957 on the Model 10.

Model numbers weren't assigned until 1957. S&Ws from the 1948-1951 era all had names, not numbers.

Welcome! To summarize, you have a .38 Military & Police revolver from 1951. It is a K or medium frame gun with 5 screws, 4 on the side plate (one hidden by the stock panel) and 1 at the forward base of the trigger guard. Well over 2 million of these had been made by then, several million more since and a similar gun is still in production.
It looks to be in nice condition, just a little muzzle and edge wear, probably from a holster. Enjoy!

Your M&P's serial number strongly suggests that it shipped around August-September 1952. Indeed, a collector would call it a pre-Model 10 (as applied to those M&Ps made during the approximate 1948-58 period which were not stamped as Model 10). It appears yours has the so-called PC, or "Plain Clothes" grips with the rounded bottom, which started about that time. You might check to see if the SN stamped on the back side of the right grip panel matches that on the frame.

I don't think PC was used by S&W. The company called them Modified Magnas.
Picky...picky...

]I would like to thank all of you for the welcome to the forum. I plan to stick around and learn more about these type revolvers. Seems to be knowledgeable representation here in this forum so I just soon learn from the ones who know.
One more revolver I have that's seen days long ago I believe anyway.
An old COLT Police Positive .32 CTG 6 shot revolver. I consider it to be in pretty good shape and it shoots perty near dead center at 10yrs. Any further you pissing in the wind. Unbelievable how 1yd . can throw a bullet like out, off the target even. Even though it shoots great, straight, everything is tight, working as it should, so I'm happy with that.
Anyway can someone please elaborate on this here Colt .32 please kindly!!!!
THANKS

Yes there are matching numbers on the back side. This revolver looks like so many others, but I'm still not sure of its model.

Yes the numbers do match. There are 3 matching serial numbers, frame, back side of the grip and the cylinder.
Any knowledge about the Colt that I have pictured anyone???

Your Colt should have the model name and calibre stamped on the left side of the barrel.
It may have been worn off through the years by refinishing and or just severe useage.
It appears to be a Police Positive

Welcome to the forum. S&W did not put model numbers on their guns until 1957/8. Your S&W was known as the .38 Military and Police and was used at one point by most every law enforcement and military group in this country and elsewhere.
When model numbers were assigned, this model was designated the Model 10.
S&W has made somewhere around 7 million of this model and it is one of the backbones of the S&W legacy.
Neat guns and very popular with S&W fans. Don't know anything about Colts and usually Colt is considered a four letter word around here.

Thanks gentleman from each of you. I now know and not guessing anymore. I would like to apologize for the four letter word that I questioned about yesterday!!!! No intention to affend the forum. I do suppose I am out of place with that one.
Well I'm going knock down a few cans before the rain. Ordered a few hundred rounds if UMC .38 from Cheaper than dirt, $12.50 a box of 50. Anyone know of Any other online ammo site with possible cheaper ammo??

No offense taken, at least not by me. Very common, most just don't know about the non-Smith section. I wanted you to get proper exposure for your Colt...oops...question.

If they don't hose you on the shipping, that's a good price for brand name blasting ammo.
