Welcome aboard.

Not many pictures showing. You have a Hand Ejector from after WW II for sure. And it looks like you have a 38 M&P from before ~1955.

Provide the serial number from the grip frame butt including any preceding letter digit and we can pin down the year for you.

The C series started in 1948 at C1. Certainly 1948 production.

This is a Military & Police Model which becomes the Model 10 in 1957. FYI it's built on the K frame size and has a square butt. The condition suggests a lot of carry and use (just the way I like 'em) and this was the most popular model S&W made. Not a lot of monetary value but a neat gun.

Cool serial.

It's what many collectors would call a "pre-Model 10" M&P. The closest SN I have listed is C 85xx which shipped in 7/48. It shows to have been subjected to lots of use and would not sell for more than maybe $250-$300 in that condition. It is a little surprising that the grips don't show wear consistent with the condition of the metal.

Nice shooter grade Pre-10. Great to take to the range and shoot semi-wad-cutters with. As others had said, value would be about $300.
Have fun!

Many Thanks to all for your help!
If only these old ones could talk....I'd love to listen to where they've been and what they've done! (OMG.....I hope I didn't give California another idea....a talking revolver to go with a Microstamping pistol!)

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Your .32-20 (WCF) hand ejector was made after 1915. It is a Model 1905 4th Change. Someone with a database or who has a close SN might tell you more. These guns were slow sellers. All were made by 1930 and were in inventory until 1940.

S&W revolvers in .32 WCF had their own serial number sequence; that number places yours most likely in 1917, I believe.

That serial number belongs to a J frame 32 Caliber S&W long cartridge gun. It's from 1969-71. If it's a square butt, it's a regulation police. If it's a round butt it is a 32 hand ejector. Open the cylinder and you can read the model number stamped in the yoke. You're going to have to post some pictures for a value.

Welcome to the Forum, Capon.

In the future, you will find that it is best to start a completely new thread when asking about a gun in your possession. Scabbing onto an old thread often will confuse issues and may result in your question getting fewer responses. Just a word to the wise.

As for your revolver, it is a .32-20 Hand Ejector. The cartridge stamp indicates production sometime before about 1913-14. The number you gave almost certainly comes from the yoke area and is not the serial number. The M is a fitter's mark and the five digit number is a parts tracking number used during assembly.

Look on the butt of the gun, on the bottom of the barrel (barrel flat) and the rear face of the cylinder. The correct serial number should appear in all three of those places. On the barrel flat, check to see if there is a letter B standing off to the left of the serial number.

Without pictures, it is nigh impossible to determine the originality of the stocks and nickel finish. We also can't help much with the value without seeing the gun.

It's a .32-20 with the assembly number identified. See my post above. The "tell" is ".32 cal. Winchester CTG."

I guess it depends on whether you believe that he got the cartridge right or he got the serial number right. I chose the serial number.

Insufficient information provided to date or even guess at a value. You need to provide the SN on the butt, also a few good pictures. It does seem to be a .32-20 M&P. In the future, please start a new thread as it eliminates confusion.

Unless he is very conversant with obsolete calibers (unlikely since he's asking here), it's hard to see where he would have gotten the "Winchester" to associate with the .32 unless so stamped on the barrel, so if I were a betting man, my money would be on the serial being wrong.
