Smile 44 Caliber Shooters

Last week my son and I went to our local range for a couple of hours. He took his Glocks in 9mm and I took two S&Ws. One is a 44 Special shipped in late 1955 fitted with stocks by Roy Fishpaw and the other is a Model 29-2 fitted with smooth target stocks (shipped in 1971). I put about a hundred rounds through each and they functioned flawlessly and were on target. The 44 Special is my favorite!!! Click on each photo for a better look.

Bill

A S&W .44 Special is definitely on my short list. Til then I 'll have to enjoy the .44 Special fired through my Model 29 Mountain Gun. The MG is a pleasure to shoot with the classic .44 and accuracy is incredible.

Well, you can only do so much with your kids!! You can disinherit the wayward son who likes glocks, I am available for adoption and much prefer S&W revolvers!!..........Dad!!

Is the ramp original on the 1950? The 6.5" versions usually have Patridge sights and I have never seen a 6.5" 1950 with a ramp. Any chance it shipped on April 19, 1955?

Both are magnificent, BTW.

I know he's your son and all, but really, allowing a Glock on the range at the same time as these beautiful 44s? Heresy!

Great pictures. Beautiful firearms. I have the Thunder Ranch (TR) 44 SPL and the Lew Horton Model 29 Lew Horton four inch. Both are shooters. The Lew Horton is heavy and handles recoil very well... accurate and beautiful. Love the S&W blueing and as I have carried the TR frequently while hunting, it has developed some character with normal holster wear. Just wish the 29 LH had a round butt with that 4 inch barrel.

SP...It took me twenty-five years to find the 44 with TT, TH, TS, red ramp and white outline. It shipped in November 1955.

Beautiful model 1950, I've been on a search for a shorter barreled 44 special and was talking to a guy at the range that was shooting a 3rd model SAA in .44 special. I told him I was looking for a shorter 44, he said "I have a couple and don't need them both." Turned out he had a 24-3 Lew Horton 3" in blue and the deal was done, since its an '83 model I won't post pictures. I am very happy with it none the less, much more than the 629 Mountain Revolver that has since been traded for another Hi Power.

What? No pix of the Glocks?

All kidding aside, I shoot a Glock 34 regularly in local IDPA matches. They are totally reliable and accurate enough for IDPA distances.

Every household needs a throw away gun and the glock is mine for the bedside. 10mm and it is a blast to shoot.

Glock 20 is on my short list although the glock 40 is calling to me. I have some 44's that I love. Charter 3 inch bulldog, Taurus 441, couple 445's. My snubby 624 is comforting in a shoulder holster. My 24 is probably the most accurate gun I have. From day 1 I could shoot one (big) hole groups with the 24. It is almost boring it's accuracy.

I might consider that also. But I have one rule, don't buy ugly guns.

My first revolver was a Model 27. So for my second I wanted that .44 mag I had heard about. I got a 629-1. Damned if I didn't find my favorite in shooting .44 specials. Only have the one, but it gets shot a lot.
Really nice bunch of pictures here guys.
