Default DW FAN stock restoration show and tell

I had three sets of stocks that were in need of repair and or refinishing. Paul (DW FAN) fixed 'em up and they arrived today.

Craig Spegel J boot grips for my 640-1. Several years of carry, riding in the door pocket of my truck, and getting dunked while fishing had taken a toll on the original finish. Now they look better than new.

Custom N round combats that began life, I believe, as garden variety Goncalo Alves square butt target stocks. These came from our friend VM with the recommendation that they be refinished. Whoever reshaped the stocks did a superb job; they feel great in the hand. But the finish was terrible. Paul went the extra mile to bring out the natural beauty and then applied a protective finish that will last a very long time.

Finally, a set of pre-1920 stocks for a TL or 2nd Model N frame. These belong to the refinished nickel .455 that appears in other posts. I didn't want these to look new as my TL's are shooters. So Paul repaired the missing sliver, squared the corners so that the stocks cover the frame completely, and cleaned them up. These will look good on a shooter I think.

Before...

Great work Paul, thank you!

Just received two sets of "cokes" back from Paul. They are beautiful and even though I know where the crack & chip were, I for the life of me can not see the repairs. The finish is beautiful and period correct. I could not be more pleased with his work.

Yep, great work! I'm very pleased!

Here's an aftermarket pair that he performed his "magic"... including filling in a lanyard hole !

There is craftsmanship, then there is magic. I want to go with the former but looking at his work the latter might not be outside the realm of possibility. Bottom line is it don't matter as everything he touches turns out "purddy". regards, hardcase60

I keep telling everyone it's that Magic Dust I won off of Old Santy Clause and Tinker Bell playing poker on Christmas Eve a few years back.
I just throw a pair of distressed wood into a jar with a grain or two Of Santas dust. Put the lid on and shake till done. I also have a nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale if anyone is interested.

Another DWFAN rescue, number-matching stocks from a time-worn .44 HE 3rd transitional.

I bought a set of cokes with a chunk missing at the heel and wood removed behind the football:

Thanks Bob. My pleasure. In the last 12 years or so I've probably refinished, restored and repaired more Coke panels than anyone on this planet. With an average of two to three a month.
Second place goes to Pre war N frame Magnas. One or two a month. That's a lot of wood.

DW Fan,
1916 vintage .455 HE that has had the barrel and the cylinder replaced with post war parts.
It will shoot .45 ACP in moon clips, 45 Auto Rim, 45 Colt and 45 Win Mag brass in moon clips loaded to old 45 Colt pressures and velocities.

Rumor has it, you refinished the stocks for Sasabranger.

That rings a bell. Thom is a very old and respected client and friend. Funny this should come up but he just sent me two pair to fix up for him.
Quite a versatile shooter you have there. Certainly won't run out of ammo to shoot.
