Talking Gun Show Find 38/44

Its been an interesting summer, so goes the ancient China curse. Age has not been good to me, however, today was the bright spot in my 75th summer filled and a positive change in my luck. The Andalusa AL gun show was today, held only once a year and all the old timers were there with lots of Winchesters, tons of Colts, shotguns of every type and of course the "black guns". I try to take a quick walk thru the show and survey the "goodies", two caught my eye; a very early nickel 38 special regulation police with gold medallion grips, 4" barrel in about 90+ condition, asking was 299.00 on a friends table with pleas of "make me an offer" and "I can make you a deal on this one". I made a mental note and moved on, towards the last row of tables I saw a retired Army CSM that had only 4 guns on the table. This one stopped me dead in my tracks, I can not resist an N frame and an old one to boot with serial #S88067 with a 5" barrel and a short action. All numbers match except the grips, all chambers are mirror bright as well as the bore. What's not to like and out the door for 5 bills.

Delta, I always understood the curse to be, "may you live in interesting times."

It's so cool that you were able to find a proper gun for a mature guy. I have one of those, it is totally Impractical, but it’s really fun to have. Enjoy that guy for the rest of your years.

That's a fine find. Just the right amount of wear to show character, instead of looking like an artifact. Enjoy your fine acquisition.

Good snag, Jim! I've got to make my way over to Andalusia one of these years. See you in Dothan Sept. 24-25?
