Pre war N frame grips (Triple Lock)
What should one expect to pay for a set of pre war N frame.e grips in "decent" condition? These would be ones appropriate for a Triple Lock. Any difference in value if they are the later ones with medallions or the earlier ones without medallions?

I paid $200 for this set, pencil-marked 16684, just about two years ago. They are now installed on the TL shown here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-han...#post139213585. A set in similar condition sold for something like $85 in the forum classifieds earlier this year. They didn't last long!

The TL set pictured here: DW FAN stock restoration show and tell came with a TL .455 purchased in January 2014. One panel was damaged and the bottom corners of both panels were worn so I put them away until DWFAN could work his magic on them this summer. Had I bought them used and damaged they would have been $75-$125 at a gun show. Add the cost of repair and cleaning or a full restoration and you're well over $200.00.

Hey, that's still less than pre war Magnas and Cokes!

I paid $200 for a decent set for my triple lock. I kinda cringed a bit at the price, but how many loose ones are there? But, I wanted to make mine as near as I could to original, so figure it was worth it. I figure that after paying $700 for the gun it I could do it and still have the value. Even though the gun had been reamed and slightly recessed for 45 colt.

We can thank the British for their WW I contract for ~ 75,000 455 1st and 2nd model 455s for an abundance of N frame stocks with recessed gold plated brass medallions.
If it wasn't for those, these stocks would certainly rival Cokes in value!

I think $150, if they had condition going for them, was a BUY. I also think these WWI/pre-WWI dished medallion stocks (in all sizes) have been under valued compared to some of the other models that have exploded. I also think they are in the process of correcting right now. I know of a set that will sell soon for at least $225 at auction. They are in nice shape but they certainly don't show "mint luster". I think if you need a pair, sooner is a better time to buy than later.
BTW Wiregrass, I have never taken the time to thank you for your sponsorship - very kind Sir and I appreciate it.

Yep, I could have got more for them but the buyer really wanted a decent pair and had been looking for a long time. So, I took a little off.
You are welcome, Sir!

I have 2 triple locks in .455 that are in excellent condition. They have both been reamed to .45 Colt and the grips have been replaced. I would like to find 2 sets of grips for them.

Is there a difference in price between the later one's with the medallion and the early plain wood ones?

There should be, those w/o medallions are relatively scare and difficult to find. They were only made for one model, the early TL from 1908 thru sometime in 1910, when those with medallions were introduced.
I estimate only 4500 sets were issued, but fewer people are looking for them.
