Help trying to nail down a year for my M&P Revolver
Hi, I'm new to the group. I recently purchased an old M&P revolver from an estate sale. As you can see from the pictures I got it in cosmetically rough condition. I was trying to nail down an age on this one. It will determine which way I want to go with this project. If it is something that might be worth a penny or 2 some day I'll spend the extra buck and reblue it and preserve it properly. Otherwise I'll give it to the local guy to clean up and Cerakote it, have some fun with it.

It's a pre war, probably late 20's, If you give us the serial # someone will give you a close date.
They're not rare or valuable, millions made. Either leave it alone and shoot it, or Cerakote it and shot it. I have one I've thought about doing it to.
Stick to standard velocity ammo.

Likely your M&P shipped in late 1922-early 1923. I sure wouldn't spend much fixing it up, as it's very common.

Spend your money on ammo. You have a nice "learning" gun. Just shoot it and get to know the functioning. We have all had one. Mine was a Victory when I was younger. Still have it.

I ended up dropping it off to get Cerakoted, went with a 2-tone gun metal gray frame and side cover and everything else a matte black. It should look killer when done, I'll post pics.
Does anyone know where I can get black grips for it now? If I order from Pachmayr or Hogue what model??

Close serial numbers were shipped in 1923. Any grips made for a S&W square butt K frame will fit. I have Rubber Pachmayrs on a similar gun and they work very well absorbing recoil and make for a comfortable shooter. Ed.

Sean ,
I do not understand why some finishes wear to a nice patina while others flake off like yours. I have some of each.
Please do post photos of the new Cerakote finish ; I am interested to see that.

The nicest thing about that revolver is the stocks. That type was only used from 1920 until about 1929. Yours appear (in your dark photos) to be in pretty good shape. If you are determined to put Goodyears on it, for goodness sake don't throw the originals away. Save them or sell them. If you are tempted to throw them away, just send them to me. I'll give them a good home. So would any number of others on this Forum.
