Talking Showing Off an Old 44

My passion for old guns is taking a new twist, how do I show these bad boys off instead of them lingering in the safe. Well, the traditional way out west is leather and the more ornate the gun the more fancy the hide. So, I dug this old 1926 S&W 44 special Texas Wolf & Klar out of the safe to show her the light of day. The gold hammer and trigger must have been a gleam in some cowboy's or lawman's eye back in the day. The sambar stag adds a touch of respect to the hombre who carried this handful of iron, she was tastefully re-nickel somewhere on the trail. The authority of the old 44 speaks truly for the iron men who carried them in a time when decision making did not require a committee. A man's word was his bond and a lawyer's piece of paper not required.

Leather by ArchangelLeather.com and Gun by S&W, I love this stuff and just ordered another one for a 5" project triple lock that is ready to be polished, engraved and plated. Enjoy life, its all we got! GOD, Duty, Honor, Country.

Those stags are outstanding! The 44 is pretty special too

I think one way to show them off and enjoy their heritage, is to take them to the range and exercise them.

Are you going to get a letter on this one? A lot of 3rd Model 44's letter to W&K which is great, but not the whole story....a few have lettered to really neat historical figures and places from way back when.

I hope that you will post some photos of your Triple Lock project (step by step would be great)....there are more old 44 hounds around than you might believe

Yep. A gun from a time and used by men who drank black coffee and straight whiskey, and ate red meat. I'm not a fan of gold plating, but in this case it is just fine because it personalizes it to one of these old time gun packers you're talking about.

Default Great Handgun

When I see a beauty such as your .44, I fantasize finding such a treasure in some out-of-the-way pawn shop that managed to get overlooked by gun collectors.

But, here in New York, pawnshops have long since stopped selling guns due to the onerous gun laws.

That gun just looks like serious business, from a time when "He needed killin' " was all the reason why you might need.

The gold hammer and trigger/nickle must have been a popular modification at some point in the past. I've seen a fair number of guns that have it, maybe a dozen or so anyway. As best I can remember, every one I've seen had pearl grips. The stags look better. There is one at my favorite dealers now. I'll have to take a look at it.

Default Your gun's cousin

Here's your gun's cousin, a .44 Triple Lock customized and carried in its working life by a Florida State Trooper. That's his name on it.
