Default 1940 357 / 1940 ivories

Thanks to Jim Brewster for helping me pair these 1940 ivories to my 1940 NRM .357 magnum. If I could change one thing about them I wish they had US Army on them so I could convince myself that it was General Patton's Sunday , go to meeting .357. Still, I think it's not too shabby , even for a guy who got turned down by the USMC because of knee surgery. .

That's an awful nice looking .357 there... And the stocks are pretty nifty too!! Nice pairing. That gun looks like it hasn't been used much at all.

Congratulations on a great acquisition!!

Best Regards, Les

Fantastic NRM made even more beautiful by addition of the ivories. Wonder how the stocks were dated?
Also, I like the humpback hammer. Does the gun letter with?

"Still, I think it's not too shabby , even for a guy who got turned down by the USMC because of knee surgery. . "

I met the grandfather of a college buddy back in the early '70s. The granddad had played football for Auburn in the late '30s-early '40s and had suffered a knee injury. Auburn had mandatory Army ROTC in those days and was an artillery school. The granddad was told by the Army that he couldn't be commissioned due to the fact that he could no longer do deep knee bends.

He was approached by a Marine recruiter who asked if he like to be a Marine officer. Granddad explained that he couldn't serve, due to not being able to do deep knee bends. The Marine smiled and said, "We won't ask you to do deep knee bends."

He was commissioned and served on Guadalcanal, where he was decorated.

That is a great story and I enjoyed reading it.

My issue was, in the early 80s, maybe still, there was (is) a policy about foreign objects in a potential recruit's body. I have a large staple that now does nothing, but was put in to hold the ligament together until it healed.

I really wanted to serve but instead of 4 years in the USMC as an MP and then to the PD , life dictated that I go straight to the PD. I can't complain though, I was able to retire at 45 and start another career.

I've got a NRM from a little bit earlier that shipped with a 4" barrel and it has KB Roper's on it. It was shipped December 19th 1939. It was billed at $ 40.35 without the Humpback Hammer. They must have discounted these guns by July of 1940.
