Nickel 27-1
I was fortunate enough to pry this from another SWCA member's hands recently....
Its the only 27-1 in Nickel that I've seen or heard of. Are there any more out there?
The stocks are 21 numbers off...dangit.
And pictured with her blued 3.5" sister 27-1

No idea how unusual the Ni finishes were, but this one may have been shunted aside for the Ni finish prior to shipment. All the other N-frames I have listed with SNs in reasonable proximity to yours shipped in 1962.

Beautiful, just beautiful!
No real help here but my Pre Md 27 in nickel with 3.5 inch barrel also shipped to the W.S. Darley Co. back in 1950. My avatar shows this gun.

Very nice 27-1. The frame must have been "lost" for a couple of years as most of the N-frames in this serial number range shipped in the first half of 1961. Your 27-1 most likely has the lowest serial number known for an N-frame revolver with a -1 configuration.

Thank you, sir. Yes that intrigued me about the low serial. I hope the SWHF can come up with more info on it when they are ready...

Nice rare find. The nickel is so purdy. I prefer the world famous S&W nickel finish since there not offering the nickel finish today in most models like they once did. The only nickel finish that's offered today is the new S&W 29-19 / 4" / 44mag.

Long green crowbar usually works well on these type of situations!

Super cool buddy. I hope it did not cost you a Nickel Combat Magnum. :-) I wanna b like Mike. Well you did not know if they were out there. Now you do. Can you live with the Grips being 21 off in number? Me personally I always liked the game 21 or if you prefer Black Jack!

Haha...thanks man.
Ahhh....the dang grips. 21 numbers! 210433...Wonder if they just switched them with that gun at the factory.
Maybe I can find 210433 an swap em back?
Wishful thinking...

Does anyone know how many of the 27-1's were made? I think they are more rare than the pre-27s, and I have no idea about 27 no dash. The production numbers of the nickel 27-1 has got to be crazy low!

😁 Crazy ain't it! Nickel Combat Magnums are few and far between. No doubt about that. But to have the only known 27-1 Nickel on the forum. Well that's another matter entirely. I figure it was well worth the three hour drive.

I find it interesting how much that the actual shipping date differs from the ~ 'production date' (SCSW) in the 1950-1968 time period.
|
Thank you sir. Yes the ship date to serial number is mind boggling sometimes.
Can't wait to see your 6" 27-1 in person...

I'm not even a huge fan of nickel plated guns, but that is an absolute stunner.

Pre 27
I have a pre 27 with a 5 inch barrel, nickel plated. It was sent back the smith factory, sometime in the seventy's for a re nickel. all is marked with the factory stamps and is still in great shape, I have gotten a letter from Mr Roy last week and it was confirmed as one of the first 357 mags, and delivered soon after the factory stopped the registering of them. Its a 1951 with the factory wood. Yours was a great deal from a member. let me know what you think.

Geez, Mike! If I had known you had that, I would have come by yesterday to admire it in person with some 20 year old Scotch. You're making a good run at cornering the 27-1 market, Dude.

No. I posted mine due to the serial number, not that it was nickle, since the # was close to some of the others listed in this post.
