New member and date question
Good morning.
New member old guy here. Carried S&W revolvers (15/65/681) during the first decade of my almost 40 years of public service. The last 28+ has been a mixture of city/state-issued Sigs (226/220), Beretta 96, Glock 22, S&W M&P .40, and back to a Glock 23 currently.
First revolver was a Model 28 6" in 1977. Killed several coyotes with it and a lot of PPC targets.
Traded it for a Model 66 4" and years later traded that for an S-prefix S&W 4 screw 6.5" .44 Magnum, which was badly in need of reblue from years of storage in a full-flap leather holster.
I'm asking for some help in locating a year of manufacture for an old M&P HE 5-screw blue fixed sight humpback hammer 6" revolver. Serial number 2094xx
It looks like this one I found on the 'net.
If anyone can give an approximate year I'd really appreciate it.
I'd like to pass the info on to the rancher who has it.
Thanks.
John

Welcome to the Forum.
If the revolver has gold medallions that are numbered to it, it should date to the 1910-1919 era. The hammer is standard for pre WW II and is not a humpback. Someone else will probably post a more specific date.
A letter from the S&W historian will provide the shipping date and to whom the revolver shipped. Most went to hardware stores and distributors. Every now and then, the handgun was shipped to an individual.

I'm going to take a SWAG at the date and say maybe 1913 or 14.

From the serial number it fits into the .38 M&P Model of 1905,3rd change. Mfg. 1909-15.

SN 2094xx would probably date it to 1913. I list several SNs either side of that which shipped in 1913.
