Full circle back to the s&w 357 magnum
Ever notice that most of us probably started out with a 357 magnum revolver years ago. Then we come full circle back to the 357 magnum again. How many revolvers do you own in 357 magnum?
I own 8.

Also eight, I think, one of which is Brand C (but not a Python). The funny thing is that my very first centerfire revolver, which I bought on my 16th birthday, was a Python that I wish I still had. I picked up other 357s over the years, but usually by happenstance rather than intent.
I like the cartridge, but I think I still like the .44 Special above all others. Haven't bought much of anything in the last three years. The last one was a Series 70 .45 because I didn't have a 1911 in the safe and thought there ought to be one.

I too , started with a 357 , but I never left . I have always had a few 357's in my stable , always will . It is the " most shot " caliber I have . I currently have 5 , all smiths . I have a load that is laser like accurate in every gun I have tried it in . Yes , I enjoy others as well , 38 ,41,44 , 45 but I always take a 357 along with one of the others . I'm just not a semi auto guy although I have several . They don't see much use .

I own 3. Might be 4 when the Model 66 2-3/4" is available. I have semi's as well but there is just something about .357 revolvers that I love. With Kimber getting into the Revolver business and Colt making a comeback, we have lots to look forward to with future .357 revolvers.

Me too, I had a model 19 P&R 2 1/2", back in the 80's. I foolishly sold it. Just recently started collecting .357's again. I have a 44magnum, but the bulk of my revolver shooting is .357. I love that clank of the steel targets when hit with a .357.

A bunch! Here's some group shots of a few of mine...
Some pre-war ones:
Some post war engraved shorty Pre-27's:
Some Highway Patrolmans:
Some K and L frame ones:
In my opinion, there is not a more versatile gun than a .357 Magnum

First revolver was a Ruger 6" Security Six in 85, still own it. Since then I've picked up a 6" Trooper III and another Ruger 4".
I own 11 .357 capable Smiths, 5 J's, 2 K's and 3 N's and an L.
... and I have a 640-1 coming.

My first real pistol when I got out of high school was a .44 Spec. but the trajectory and penetration was like throwing a brick. I tried a .38 Spec., .45 Colt, ACP and a 9m/m but when I discovered the .357Mag. I knew I had hit the mother lode.
I can't see or hold good enough now to shoot any distance so for the last few years I have been using a 3 in. M29 loaded down to 1000fps.
Lately I've been thinking about a 2 1/2 in. M19 because it is easier to carry and I still think the .357 Mag. is the best pistol cartridge ever made.
I still own more .357 Mags. than any other cartridge. Larry

I have 4 which for me is quite a few.
The ones I come back to and have the hardest time avoiding are the K 22's
I get the most enjoyment from them as I shoot them the most.

Im also a big fan of the .357 revolver with my favorite being the 4" Combat Magnum:
Favorite pairing is this 4" Model 19-2 and 6" Model 27-2 both with 3 "T's", proud FS pins and yellow FS inserts from 1967:

Two In actual .357 and two in .38 Special. I always seemed to have some kind of .357 without much of a 'dry spell' in between!

Actually I got all of them, except the RM and the Nickel 27-2, for extreme bargains. The first one I got for free after paying retail for the Coke grips.

As the .357 Magnum revolver is the end all be all of handguns, once I started with them I never left. I'd have to get all of them out and do a head count, but i believe I've got 10.

Kind of the odd man out. Yes, my very first handgun, which I still have was Model 28, but other than that one, I only have one other, a 686. Sacrilege to some, no doubt, but as one who was hand loading before I could buy guns, the lure of other calibers was too much. Then I somehow got waylaid by the siren's song of the 1911, and it, along with a Browning HP designed for competition (well, it was after all named the GP Competition) caused much of my adult life to be spent shooting 45acp's and 9mm's. Lately, I've been taken in by .38's, both Special and S&W. Perhaps even more sacrilegious is my willingness to embrace "new" calibers like the .40 S&W, the .357 Sig and the 10mm. And of course I had to have most powerful hand gun in the world: not the 44 mag (though I do own two) but it's big brother, the 500 mag. But it shouldn't surprise anyone who knows me, after all, I was one the guys who bought Remington's space gun, the .221 Fireball and Thompson Contender's 30 Herret later adding 2 different length 30-30 barrels and a 410 barrel back in the 'good old days'. Heck, I even have a black powder Colt Navy. It's all about diversity!

That is a beautiful set of 357's. Is there a story with them? Did they come as a set? Were they special ordered by someone?...
Thanks for sharing,

Sorry to say no story or letter stating where they shipped, acquired separately via lucky happenstance .
Interesting the 27-2 also has a Baughman FS blade
The 67-68 orange diamond GA targets are also my favorite S&W stocks.

That's a hard question to answer. I "think" I have 4 N Frames, 2 L Frames, and 6 K Frames. Of those, I think there's 1 in Nickel (a M19) and 2 in Stainless Steel (a M66 and a M686). Of course I have a ton of Smiths in 38 Special. . .maybe 12 J Frames and 20 K Frames.

Four. (Scratch that) Five. How did I forget my first year Highway Patrolman?
Two 19's, one HP, one 640 and a Colt SAA. Keeping an eye out for the right 19-2 6inch to bump it up.

Which as you know is fairly uncommon on the 6" barreled 27's which almost always sport a Patridge front sight. The Baughman is very common on the 3.5", 4" and 5" 27's (and pre-27s), and still fairly common on both the 6.5" (probably more than half of them) and 8.375" (probably 10% to 20% of them, depending on era).
Do you know if the yellow insert came from the factory?

All of mine with one exception are police issued service revolvers:
1) Colt Border Patrol (Alabama D.P.S.)
2) Colt New Service (Androscoggin County Maine Sheriff's Dept.)
3) S&W Model 13 (Anchorage AK PD)
4) S&W Model 66 (Cass County ND Sheriff's Office)
5) S&W Model 66 (Ga. Alcohol & Tobacco Taxation Unit)
6) S&W Model 686 (Iowa State Patrol)
7) S&W Model 19 (Israeli Police)
8) S&W Model 586 (Jicarilla Apache Police -New Mexico)
9) S&W Model 65 (Mass. Registry -Motor Vehicles)
10) S&W Model 66 (Minnesota State Patrol)
11) S&W Model 66 (New Hampshire State Police)
12) S&W Model 586 (Seaside OR PD)
13) S&W Model 66 (Wyoming Highway Patrol)
....... and a 4" S&W Model 13 that I carry off duty. It is probably a service revolver too. But, I haven't lettered it because I want to keep it in the carry rotation! )
Best,
Charles

Not enough. I started with a 3" K-frame, which was my primary carry for many years. Added a 686 later, but switched to auto's shortly after. Still looking for nice older L and N framed 357's, but not having much luck locally.

Nostalgia has a hold on me. I've currently got eight S&W .357 Magnum revolvers and one .38 (M60). Can't do much better for effectiveness, style, reliability, accuracy and general utility.

Wow! Impressive collections. I wish I could reclaim a couple that I sold many years ago, but I managed to hold onto my 66-3 Snubby, while adding a 686+ dash 4, and a Ruger New Vaquero Montado. My latest .357 addition is a Winchester 1873 Short Rifle.

Quick run through my brain leaves me with 11 357's, 10 Smith's and one Match Champion. They dont get shot much, I lean toward those beginning with a 4 instead of a 3. Of the Smith's 3 are k/l frames the others N frames.

I have 5 n frame S&W all 6", 1 ruger security six 6", 1 ruger police service six 2 3/4", one Redhawk 5 1/2",
A few years back I caught my LGS putting a like new ruger security six 6" barrel in blue in the case for $199. It never made it in the case.
I regret selling my Python 6" 357.

.357 Magnums
WOW! I feel somewhat under gunned, since I only have three S&W .357 magnums: two model 28s (4 & 6 inches) and one 6 inch pre-27. However, I'm with DC Wilson in that most of my shootin irons are 44 Special with a big helpin of 38/44s. But, I do like the big N frames.

I don't remember how my circle started
or if I came full circle, but I now have 13, 357's all S&W. 4 K frames and 9 N frames. I do remember my first 357 in the 60's was a Hawes Western Marshall that kept coming apart when I shot it too much. I got rid of the Marshall and got a Tropper III. Got my first Model 28 and sold the Colt in the early 70's and never went back.

My first revolver was a 38 special.
But I have five 357 revolvers, more than any other caliber.
So I guess you could say they are my favorite.

I too had thought I had overdone it with .357s but it seems I'm not even in the game hardly! 10 which even surprised me when I counted.
5" pre-model 27, S Serial 27-2 5", 6" nickel N serial 27, 6 1/2" S serial 27, 4" nickel N serial, a pair of 66-1 in 4", a 66-3" in 2 1/2", a 686-6 4", and a 6 1/2" stainless Ruger Blackhawk.
Now if I can just find a 3 1/2" that would be dandy. I about half of the others I bought when I was looking for the 3 1/2!

I "only" have a J, K, and N frame, one each.
I find my 3" 60 to be my most versatile revolver, and it gets a lot of carry time.
My 4" 19-3 is the handgun I shoot best. If I had to take one shot for cash, that would be my pick.
I really, really want a 3" Model 65!

Currently 3. My first centerfire handgun was a 4" 686 bought in 1986-7 from a LEO converting to 9mm during the wondernine revolution. That was stolen during a break in of our house in 1988. I replaced it with a 6" 686-1 which I've kept and shot all these years. I didn't acquire many guns for about 20 years. I started again around 2009. About two years ago I added a 4" GP100 as my second .357. And my FIL gave my wife his .357 SS Blackhawk a few years ago as a birthday present.
But I've also added four .38 K frames and a 3" 36 no dash along the way.
I did trade off a second .357 Blackhawk I inherited on a CZ75. Kind of regret that one, but I'm not a big SA shooter and the buyer will appreciate it and use it more than I would have.
The narrow front blade on the 36 is getting harder and harder to see so I'm thinking the 36 may be traded for a K frame .357.

Care to share that laser load? I'm heading back into reloading after a hiatus and was wondering what newer loads might be available. TIA.

Not as big of a fan of the .357 as I used to be. My first one was a Model 28 I bought about 1975-1976, which was then made into an ersatz 1950 Target .44 Special. When I began in law enforcement in 1981, my duty gun was .357, so for the next 10 years, I shot them (and bought them) a lot.
We went to semiautos in 1991. I shot fewer and fewer .357's every year. My range time was limited, and I usually shot a 1911, or if shooting revolvers for pleasure, more .45 Auto or Auto Rim, .45 Colt or .44 Special.
Retired a couple of years ago, and find I don't enjoy the Magnum's muzzle blast so much, and now that this thread made me think about it, I probably haven't shot 100 rounds of .357 Magnum over the last 10 years. It's usually .45 or .44, with the occasional box of .38's through my 642 or .22 L. R. of some type.

My use of the .357 was spotty. Several friends had 6" M28s that were very accurate, so I bought one. It shot well, but I was more into big bores, so it was sold. I bought a 3 1/2 M27 to convert into a .44 Special. I bought a box of LSWC .357 ammo and shot it. That soft lead coated the bore and accuracy went to, well you know where. It quickly became a .44 Special. I had two more M28s; both were sold.
Since my PD issued .38 wadcutters for the police academy, I bought a 4" blue M19. I did an action job and round butted it. Shot expert with it, but went back to the converted M27 for duty use. A ex-wife wound up with the M19.
I've had several .357 Old Model Ruger Blackhawks converted to .44 Special, as well as another M28. I owned a 8 3/8" nickel M27 for a while. I had David Clements install a 5" barrel. That one went to a lawyer.
Had a flat top .357 OM Ruger and a couple of 50 year Rugers as well. All were sold.
My current crop is a nickel M19-4 4" that my wife has claimed. I also have a 3 digit flat top .357 Ruger that my dad left to me. I want another 5" M27 or a 4" M28, but they're not at the top of my want list.
I forgot the 4" Ruger Service Six I bought a few weeks back. Need to get out and shoot that one.

I don't think I want to know........ I'm sure I don't want my wife to know!!!!!
I do know I have J,K,L and N-frame .357s
I will admit to three 3" Model 66s , a 6 1/2" Registered Magnum........and my Dad's 6" Colt New Service in .357 magnum.

Not sure Im happy that I did the counting for this, but at least it seems I dont have as big a problem as I thought I did, after seeing some others here.
I have 13 - .357s
3 Md 19s (2.5, 4, 6)
3 686s (2.5, 3, 4)
3 Ruger SS series ( 2 - 4, 2.75)
1 Md 65 (3)
1 Md 13 (4)
1 Md 60 (3)
1 Ruger GP100 (3 W.C.)
I also realized that I have 9 - .38s.
OK, it does seem that I have a problem.

YES!!!
Indeed I did start with a Model 19 (blown up and replaced!) and I own a total of 9 presently (S&W and Ruger) with one on the way soon.
But if we are going to factor in .38s, Special or S&W, then I believe I have 12 of those. Could be 13. All S&Ws. From a 4th Model Hammerless and a .38-44 to a horde of 2" K frames and several J frames. None of my J frames are new enough to bear the +P moniker or be capable of shooting .357 Magnum but I do have one K frame that can handle .357 Magnum and another on the way, as noted above.
