Lee,
I'm looking at the 38/44s the WSP purchased and the first shipment that I know of is in 1954. So, I'm trying to piece together if there were any shipments in the 1950-53 time frame as all the transition HDs are accounted for. I knew that they had bought 50ea 44s. Hopefully with the numbers I have in the 85000 and 90000 range may shed some light on the history. Right now they have the record for HDs purchased by one department-pre and post war. Thanks for your help and have a great Airborne Day!
Bill

Mine has the Washington State Patrol ground off. You can just barely make out the first few letters. On mine the the lanyard splits the S and the serial number with the 6 right up against the stud.
I will say the action is fantastic and the old revolver is darn accurate.

Such a shame they removed the script, I've heard there were a few that got away..****mor has it they were given to retired officers that carried them and were allowed to take them home, at least that was the story I heard about the .44's. Removal of the script just ruins the thing for me, like grinding on an original front sight.
One of my neighbors was a retired Statey who's first patrol car was a 1951 Ford, he talked about how much he loved that V8.

Bill, I have WSP .44 3rd Transitional, S62697, shipped 10/3/46 to Schwabacher Hardware. It's got a lot of miles on it and the back strap has been ground but it retains the matching magna stocks. Obtained from a fellow forum member in December 2016.

I've not lettered my .44 WSP. It is serial number S 62684.

If that gun has a lot of miles on it, you’re a fantastic photographer! It looks pretty good in your pics.

WSP guns
I have 2 WSP guns: S62680, and S62824, both shipped in Oct. '46. Also have a HD 6 1/2", S92656, shipped in Mar. '53. IIRC, I had Roy do a mini-letter in Spokane, and it's not WSP. A lot nicer gun than the .44s, and no back strap shenanigans.
