Default Md-14 8 3/8ths . Rarely seen.

I need to find more time to post a few guns. I sure stat busy at being retired. Here is my Md 14 with an 8 3/8th's inch barrel. This gun was shipped in January 1959 which was the first year and month of this barrel length.

A very pretty revolver, Jim. Personally, I have never cared for the 8 3/8" barrels, feeling they are too long for me to shoot comfortably. But that one is a dandy!

What I like the most is the non-relieved target stocks. They are downright beautiful. I'm sure you are aware that by 1959, those would not normally have been shipped with a Model 14, since targets with the extractor relief on the left panel had long since been in production. Those stocks probably shipped on a gun quite a while before your gun left the factory. In any case, those are nicely preserved and carry substantial value all by themselves.

Thanks for posting!

Thats a real nice one you have there, especially the stocks! I think my 8 3/8th M-14 is a dash three, with standard hammer and trigger. I do like the "long Tom's".

That is a beautiful revolver and I'm sure its accurate as my Model 17-4 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel is my most accurate S&W revolver.

Gotta like those long bbls. Looks really nice.

Have one pretty close to yours. March of 1959

Interesting how some box stickers are marked.

No white border on lid.

Model 17 is not mentioned like the six inch boxes

Unhappy

The one I had in the early '80s had the 3Ts and factory SAO. Traded it off because it didn't serve any particular need at the time.

Have lost the ability to post pictures, but will try with an attachment.
That said, how about a 14-1 long tube?

This other dash-one came with a tag and was said to have been used on a team at a Camp in competition.

A garden variety Model 14-4 lives around here, purchased new in 1980.
