I don't know to much about guns. I'm Norwegian, sorry about my English.
I have attached photos of my gun to this thread.
It's a hand ejector.
I'm not sure if the serial number on my gun is some part erased or if it is 4-digit. I think is says 3306 at the butt of the gun.
I think it says K 38 S&W SPECIAL CTG.
5 inch barrel length.
It's a fixed sight.

It looks like a Military & Police Model of 1905 - probably from the mid 1920s. It has really been used up. It looks like it has a 6 digit serial number (as shown on the barrel flat). Is the butt broken? You only see the first 4 digits - it looks like the other two were obliterated. It has markings from an importer in the US (CAI in St. Albans, Vermont). It's in rough shape. Looks like it was reblued (or painted) over pitting, etc.

The number under the barrel, minus the "B" in front, should match the number on the butt. That number appears to have been altered. In the US, that would make this revolver illegal.

Your revolver appears to be .38 Military & Police from about 1920. The last two digits of the serial number on the butt have been removed. The longer number stamped on the flat underside of the barrel shows the entire serial number. The same six-digit number should also be seen on the rear face of the cylinder as well as a couple of other places that are harder to see.

Early models of this gun are also referred to as the Model of 1905.

The photographs may show that the gun was at some time refinished in a phosphate process that leads to a coarser rust-resistant surface. Originally this firearm would have had a high polish blue finish.

the barrel has been blocked, som its no longer consider as a gun in norway.

I was offered around 1000$ for it for some years back. did not know the value, maybe I should have sold it.

Yeah, it's worth about $100, for parts.

$1000? Well....maybe if it was recovered from the Vermork Hydro Plant in Telemark after the heavy water raid, or something.

You can do whatever you want to clean it. You cannot possibly damage it any worse than it already is. You could soak it in a can of gasoline to de-grease it and spray paint it black. Or whatever color you wish.

Are you located in Norway? If so, strange that a gun which was imported into the USA from somewhere outside the country ended up in Norway. CAI = Century Arms International, St. Albans Vermont, a gun importer. The US Gun Control Act of 1968 required that imported guns had to be stamped with the manufacturer's or importer's name and address. Therefore it would have been imported in 1968 or later.

if I remember correctly I my grandfather who died som years ago, has won som competitions with it.

He was traveling all over the world, and was also in the USA for some time.

So since my gun is as darmaged all ready, I can kleen it with gasoline. but what would you recommend for my other guns?

When my grandfather died 5 years ago, i got the rest of his guns. It has all been placed in a secure locker until now. I did not manage to open it. some of it is just weapon parts. I own it all legaly.

They are saying that it will never function again and has no collector value, so don't sweat how you clean it. It obviously has sentimental value, so if you want it to just look nice, you can, at this point, do just about anything you want to it. Sandblast and paint, have it reblued, etc.

If you have access to a bead blaster, my suggestion would be to bead blast all of the visible metal. While there are many different types of synthetic gun coatings available in the USA, they are probably not available in Norway. So after you have bead blasted it, I'd say you might consider painting it black with can of aerosol flat black paint. If you do not have access to a bead blaster, use fine sandpaper to smooth the surface. At least in the USA, it is very easy to find inexpensive wooden grips to replace those heavily worn ones now on it. Maybe not so much in Norway unless you can buy from eBay.
