Yours would be a pre-Model 32 Terrier, probably made around 1954-55.

That is a gorgeous little example of a great piece with a bit of honest wear on it; just the way I like them, nice snag.

Enjoy sir!

Same as the date I gave you yesterday on the Colt Forum.

Just messing with you, everybody hangs out everywhere.

Are you going to shoot it?

That's a nice little Terrier acquisition.

Based on my database, your #73749 was most likely shipped in the 2nd quarter of 1954.

It's an Improved I frame, 2nd version with ramp front sight and barrel rib, and a 5 screw frame. Therefore it's too early to be a Pre Model 32. The 'Pre Model' I frames are the Models of 1953 and only had 4 screws and then 3 screws after 1956.

Although yours shipped after the introduction of the Model of 1953, it does not have the engineering changes of the Models of 1953 which are the same as Model 32s, and that's why it can't be a 'Pre Model'.

Enjoy shooting that one!

Is an i frame smaller than a j?
Nice score Hootch. Nothing is more appealing than a nice old blued snub.

Yes, but only in the horizontal cyl frame length and cyl window which is what determines frame size.

I and J frame grip frame size does not vary with frame size and are in fact the same for pre 1953 I and J frames.

With the introduction of the Model of 1953 NEW I and NEW J frames, both I and J frames had their grip frame sizes lengthened 1/8", but again they are the same new length and size. And their cyl frame sizes remained different.

Picked this one up a few years ago with enough wear to make carrying it in a ankle holster a non issue shipped about 1958.
