just picked up a nice K22...or at least I think it is...it is pinned and recessed...
serial number on butt is K128___, cylinder has same number on it...some minor holster wear, other than that, pretty nice...seller said he thought it was a pre-17...
any idea of what i have, and it's value?

Assuming SN is K128xxx, yours likely shipped around late 1951-early 1952. And it has no model number. It is called a K-22 Masterpiece, later becoming the Model 17 in the late 1950s. If you just bought it, you must have felt it was worth what you paid.

I am very pleased with what it did at the range, see pix...

30 rounds, 25', all single action, first twelve rounds hand-held, last 18 rounds using sandbag rest (I got tired! bad shoulder),
she's a keeper!

but might like to try some sort of smaller rubber grips, appreciate any suggestions.

Adding a "T-Grip" would fill out your hand better and give you a better grip. Original Tyler T-Grips are still available, but you hear stories of long waits. Go to Misc items for sale and find BK Grips. almost exactly the same as Tyler, but made form molded resin and much lighter weight, and much quicker delivery.

Find what fits your hand best and use those. However, I'd bet the stocks on the gun now are stamped inside the right panel with the gun's serial number. If so, they are original to that frame and were hand-fitted to match it. In that case, hang onto them and store them in a safe place. They belong with that gun and keeping them will enhance the revolver's long term value.

I have bought T-grips for my three "pre" guns recently from Tyler in OK and got them within a week or two. They are a print the form, mail a check outfit but I'm pleased with their responsiveness. In fact I ordered a T-grip for my Baby Chief and the owner called me to confirm as he sells very few of those.

I like the way the T-grip feels, and it keeps the original numbered stocks on the guns where they won't get lost.
