Appears "as new," Sal. No box or goodies. Here's the flip side.

As an aside, the SCSW 4th Ed. says there were 615, but I've seen one of Roy's letters where he says 2,000.

When these were produced, if i recall correctly, sometime in the 1990s, I had purchased a few of these. I liked them but I decide to sell them because they just seemed not to appreciate. I should have held them a few more years. Am I correct that this model came with a pair of Uncle Mike's on them ?

Not sure if the sister CST 3" was a satin nickel or a bead blast finish stainless. Do you recall ? Do you know how many of this nickel or stainless model were produced ?

Thanks for the input. the cooperation is much appreciated. I'll gladly accept an email message from any member to document SNs of any Chief Target Models advertised anywhere for sale (online, major auction house, etc) that I can document the serial numbers.

No, the 36-6s did not come with UM grips. The Hogues are original, per Roy's letter about a different one, and they were among the "flavor of the month" 1989 offerings.

I can't help with the finish on the stainless (Model 60-4), and I've not seen or heard of a nickel version of that era.

Example of Model 60-4. (Along with a 36-6) The 36-6 had the Hogues when I got it. The 60-4 had the Uncle Mike grips. I replaced them with the targets because it makes them look like 586/686 guns that were washed in hot water.

This one has a satin finish (Model 65-5)

Data updated today. Need more serial numbers. Please submit your Chief Special Target SNs and ship dates (if you have) for the Survivor's list. All data is kept confidential. Email me at [email protected]. Sal Raimondi, Sr.

NOTE: Data elsewhere should be amended to show CST1s, are found in the 55xxx and 57xxx serial numbers only. Therefore stating 55xxx-57xxx is incorrect, as research shows, no CST1s were produced in the 56xxx serial number range.

Why don't we have a data base for this type of information on all guns?
We used to have a decent one. What happened??

It should have sold with the Aluminum fluted-handle, black oxide shaft and short hollow ground blade: 1964-1988.

But I know for a fact that some gun sellers (clerks) robbed the SATs from new guns. I've met former clerks that brag about having a box full of new SATs.

thank you, Perry. Date is added. I like the 60-1s. I purchased 3 x 60-1 Ashland CSTs, NIB, from Harrison Carroll in California, (NOT related to David Carroll) sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Also, any time one would pop up in excellent or "as new" condition at a reasonable price I'd pick those up, too.

Harrison Carroll was a dealer on par with Ray Brazille but Harrison Carroll had more of the newer issues Colts, Snake guns, SAAs, S&Ws and other fine firearms where Ray Brazille specialized almost exclusively in vintage and rare S&Ws of impeccable condition.

RIP both Harrison and Ray. I miss them both.

Hi Sal,

Do you have the ship dates on them?

I hadn't known of 58704, but 67812 is a blue 2" that shipped June 11, '59.

Cheers

thank you. Data on 57804 (not 58704) came from a reliable member source

I own 67812, was too lazy to go fetch the letter for the exact date. Thank you. Sal

You're in good company. I do the same thing (as I'm sure most of us do, once in awhile) but I attribute it to my old age.

Me, too!

I never made mistakes before I got old.

At least, I don't remember ever making one.

Default chief target

I have M-36 Target # 391816 and # 391902, both bought in Austin, Texas. blued, squarebutt and 2 inch bbls. In the 1966 group.
SWCA 892

Dug into my safe, #391816, 99+% fine turn line. Grips; no serial number, rubber stamped 5485 on back of rt stock, no diamond. #391902, 100%- barely discern super fine turn line. Grips; serial numbered to revolver, diamond grips. BP boxes, First has no signs of a label, Second has what looks like white paint with a bunch of numbers that look typed in. Part of 1006 shipped in 1966. Hope this helps

I will post them, thank you. We are all on our honor, here. What do you conservatively rate them for condition ? Original numbered stocks ?

List updated today. Keep those serial numbers coming. Thank you.
from Joe Cebull and Sal Raimondi. Joe Cebull first started this survivors list about 20+ years ago and even before that in the pre-internet days.

We've been trying to get it as complete as possible. I've just been helping out.

Uncommon adjustable sight 36?

BC38, see if you SN is listed here. I've been keeping the count along with Joe Cebull for near 30 years now. All the best, Sal Raimondi

Looks like I have the latest addition to the database.
I just picked up 149995 today.
I'm guesstimating it at about 80%, maybe 85% finish.
All original except the grips. Need to find a set of period correct square butt diamond magnas to make it right.
No box, or other goodies, just the gun.
I'll get some decent pictures to post once it clears BGC jail and comes home with me.

Haw anyone seen a 60-1 3" Target? Tim Mullin was looking for one when he was doing his book on J-frame revolvers (in limbo now since Blake Stevens died). I have seen quite a few 60-1 2" Target models but never a 3" one.

Took the butt ugly rubber off - no signs of rust or other marks under them.
So I gave it a quick rub down and wipe off. Then I put the wood off my M36 3" on it for a couple of quick photos.
Not the greatest pictures in the world - I'm not much of a photographer. Fact is about half the pics I took turned out blurry and unusable. I hate how you can't really tell how they'll turn out looking at the camera's screen. I'll have to take some more later, but here are 4 of the best ones I got this go around.

Mod 36-6, matte finish, original box & tools, S/N BEA7771. Ship date July 1989. 95%. Original Hogue finger groove rubber grips. SCSW4 states one of 615, but Roy tells me there were 2000 made.

FYI, will be listed on a near future sale by David Carroll.

I must have missed something.
Are you selling them, looking for them, or what?

Sorry for the confusion the target model I just bought has non Smith & Wesson grips on it look like Maple, and look homemade but a very good job. I will be looking for period correct ones soon.

Gotcha, so you're looking for the same thing I found for mine. A set of un-numbered black-washer diamond magnas.
Hope you find them. Shouldn't be too terribly difficult.

Far and away, the majority of boxes for targets I recall, have a 'T' or 'Tar' or 'Target' written on the label with black grease pencil. Volume was so low, I don't know if there was a specific label for targets, and likely I'm just remembering labels from other target models that are actually stamped "TARGET".
