Smile Replacement Extractor Rod PreModel 27 Source?

Hello S&W Devotees,

I have a 1951 5-screw Pre-Model 27 serial S109XXX with 6" barrel. My extractor rod is slightly deformed and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a source that can supply one that would work with the gun. It is a completely original 1951 gun that I wish to maintain its originality if possible. The gun is still used on rare occasions.Any idea of costs, warranty, and contact information? I would greatly appreciate if anyone can enlighten me. Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum.

You need a right hand threaded rod. Straight with no knob, just a knurled tip.

Blue or nickel and what percentage of finish to match the gun? Can you provide a total length measurement with a vernier caliper or micrometer in .001 of an inch?

That's a great video of the professional-with-all-the-tools method.

It's pretty easy and much quicker to also straighten rods by rolling on a flat surface to find the run out. Then place the rod on a lead ingot and tap with a raw hide hammer.

Thank you gentlemen for your quick replies.Hondo44/Jim: The Rod measures 4.201" long on a vernier caliper (tip to tip). I would estimate the % of finish on the rod to be about 90%. It is blued. I appreciate the gunsmith video 824tsv. Thanks for the link. Jim: that is a great idea about rolling the rod on a flat surface, finding the roll out point and tapping with a raw hide hammer on a lead ingot. I will pass this on to my smith. Gentlemen thanks again to you both. FredClem1
