Default 38 S&W special ctg

I have a 38 S&W special ctg with serial number C146150. I would like to know the age of this handgun. some specifics; it has a 4inch barrel, wood cros hatched grips with medallion, stamped with made in USA Marcas registradas, Smith and Wesson, Springfield,Mass on the right side just in front of the trigger and the trade mark on the right side in front of grip, When the cylinder is swung open there is a P 7, and the 66501stamped there.
I would like to know anything about this model and where to possibly find the history of it?

This serial number dates from 1948 to 1950 or so. The revolver is a 38 Military and Police revolver that eventually became the Model 10 in 1957. These were very popular revolvers for most Police Department and civilians for many many years. Hope this helps. Steve

Welcome to the Forum. You apparently have a Military & Police Model of 1905, 4th change, K frame revolver, made about 1950-51. In 1957 this gun became the Model 10. The P7 is a fitter's mark, made when the gun was assembled. The 66501 is an assembly number used during production to reassemble parts after they were plated or blued, etc. It has no significance after the gun leaves the factory. You can obtain a factory historical letter from Roy Jinks, factory historian, that will tell you when, where and to whom the gun was shipped by S&W. There's a link on this Forum to the application form for the letter. It cost $75 currently. Ed.
