Did anyone follow the recent auction from Woodlawn Boys on a K32 with the original box? Nice revolver, with a little bit of minor pitting in a couple places sold for over $4100.....if that's the new price level....maybe my old beat up K32 needs restored. ....

Yea..I watched them. I bid on a few..got none. There were a few bargains and surprise endings. It was fun to watch...and be part of. I LOVED all the high definition photos on all the revolvers for sale.They do a real nice job. I even emailed them and told them so. Next round coming up in a couple of days,although I'm not really a "Safety" model fan,there are some standouts.

I looked at the one Perfected model, but I'm trying to sell off a couple first.. I enjoy watching their auctions....most of the time the pieces I'd want go for way more than I can justify spending...not questioning the value, just my willingness to spend at that level..Scottish heritage, you know...

I bought a 95%+ 1952 vintage 5 screw, K32 Heavy Masterpiece on this forum back in 2011 for $2,250 shipped. Been fun to watch the value of this revolver go way up. Long time Forum member, Lee Barner sent me my 1st box of period ammo and never asked for a cent. What a guy. Don't restore your revolver. That will kill the value. Big Larry

Mine is pretty worn. I think a proper restoration would enhance it. I'm not talking about a simple refinish. ...probably never get around to it nonetheless. ..

Yes, I watched it.
It was one of my gotta have Smiths. I picked one up about 6 months ago for $600 less than that one sold for. Original box (can barely make out the first few digits of the serial #, maybe it's wishful thinking), helpful hints, cleaning kit and correct SAT (rough shape). The one I bought is in better shape than this one that we are referring to. Mine, was sold on gun broker, from a dealer out of New Hampshire.
I'm telling you all this as a lead in to a question. I'm not bragging. Please don't think that.

My question is........
Do you think that certain sellers guns go for more than they should because of who the seller is? Obviously the Woodlawn Boys have earned a very respectable name for themselves. I've bought a couple S&W's from them, and they are NICE.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the seller or the buyer, just curious if you all feel the reputation of the seller affects the price when the hammer drops.

Oh I absolutely think that folks pay more for guns from them, reputation, presentation....first rate...I would have though that to be a $2800 piece...I guess I have a bit to learn....makes me feel a lot better about my $1100 ugly duckling.

...collectors like original...for good reason...if top dollar was paid for restorations...they would all get restored...and there wouldn't be a nickel's worth of difference in any of them...and it would be pointless to collect them...

I did a little unscientific research of closed GB auctions. It would appear that some restored items have a very active collector base, especially for uncommon models. I mean, if you want a certain model and there is limited availability, why wouldn't someone consider a well done restoration? I understand the purist collectors, who obviously have more disposable income than many of us, but....these are as sold prices.

About 2 weeks ago a pre-16 went for less then 2 grand on gun broker. The pictures were dark so not sure someone got a good deal. Yes, some people get more at auction the others. Some get more on outright sales also. Larry

I believe the quality of the photo's, and the description, as well as the reputation of the seller garner a higher price as the buyers "trust" them. I'm pretty well convinced that when the time comes for me to dispense with major parts of my accumulation David may just get them to sell.

There are a few other sellers out there, Jack the Dog is one that falls in that same category.

I no longer collect S&W's. Moved along to Winchesters, but I cannot give any of my revolvers up. I have a very nice K32 5 screw in the box which I have no need for, but if I sell it and make a huge profit over what I paid for it, I would probably never get another. Same with my near mint in the numbered box with tools and papers, 1947 LERK K22. If it went I probably would not replace it. So, I am getting a little greedy in my old age, and will keep the 30 S&W's I bought a few years back. I will leave them to my Step Son and Grandkids and Great Grandkids who I know will not sell Grandpas guns off. Big Larry

There was a K32 at the Rock Island Auction this past weekend that was paired with a 16-4 and a .44 HE. All of them were very clean, very little wear on them. The lot number was 6955 if you want to look at them. Both .32s have their correct boxes. The lot sold for $5500 and then add the 17.5% buyers premium and you are looking at almost $6500 for all of them. If someone on the forum got them they got some very nice firearms...I am jealous as I got to see them in person and was out quickly in the bidding.
As an aside, I also saw another K32 on an auction site recently that was beautiful and had the correct box and sold for $3250.

I am glad to see those things are moving up. My father and I picked up one 10-12 years ago mint in gold box for $1900 and I thought that was on the high side. We will see what another 10 years will bring.
