Hello.
I recall my dad mentioning this is a chiefs special. .38 snubby with stag grips with 91642 on the butt. No model number on the yoke. He carried it as a back-up to his service weapon as a small town cop in Alabama in the '60's and every day until his death in October of last year and it's become my most prized material possession. Any information, including date of mfr, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on owning a fine revolver. Let me be the first to mention that we love pictures. Good closeups would help the experts here determine if the grips are real stag and assist you with other information about your father's gun. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you treasure your inheritance.
Welcome to the forum. I have a later version of your Dad's gun and mine is marked as a Model 36. I can see why your Dad carried it. I own more than a few handguns and some vintage Smiths among them. My Model 36 is probably one of my most favored 38s and I carry it CCW quite often.
Sorry to hear about your Dad but I'm sure that he is very happy that you now have it and cherish it. My Dad has been gone now for 22 years and while he wasn't a "pistol guy" I have a rifle that was his that I cherish greatly. Each time you handle that Chiefs Special, you'll think of him. A nice heirloom to have and to pass on.
