Default Large silver stock medallions??

I have come into possession of a really nice K-22 Outdoorsman's It has beautiful service (roundtop) style stocks. They have small silver colored medallions.. In my woodpile, I found an almost identical set with much larger silver medallions.. . The K-22 has a ship date of 1937 and these stocks, are wider and longer than the k frame, and are to small for an N frame. What frame and time frame do the larger medallions fit into???
TIA,
JIM......

Sorry mods. wrong catagory..

Well, who knows. I don't. But I can tell you that factory grips with large medallions came almost exclusively on N frame guns. We've seen and heard of a handful of examples on K frame guns. The term handful is being generous at 5, as in the number of fingers you've probably got.

So what I'd suggest is you find a nice older N frame (the honest kind with square butt frame) and test them on that. I've owned a few sets of large medallion grips that were modified to fit a K frame. One set so well you really had to look to tell. But you can because the removal of wood impinges on the border of the checkering. There is no doubt in my mind where they came from.

If you'd like other opinions, slap them on an N frame gun and take a photo of it for our benefit.

The large silver medallions were used for K-frame grips only during very early production, ca. 1930. I think there are some which can pin down the use date more closely, but suffice it to say that K-frame large silver medallion grips were never plentiful. I am not sure what the large medallion stocks you describe fit. Sometimes N-frame grips can be forced onto a K-frame, but they do not fit well. Can you post a picture?

finally I got some pictures (poor as they are)... The shots on the blued gun is an outdoorsman's ca. 1937.. The one of the same stocks on a 27-2 nickel..
The stocks overhang the K frame at the back strap, front strap and the heel.. About the same amount all three locations... They fit the n frame perfectly on the front and back straps, but hang over the heel...
Didn't I hear somewhere that some of the older N frames had a longer grip frame???
Thanks for your interest...

The pre-war N frames had about 1/8th inch longer grip frames than the post-war N's. The shown grips would fit a 2nd model 44, Wpf & Klar or Pre-2ar Heavy Duty for example..
