Default "S" prefix 3-1/2 357 magnum

Just picked up a nice "S" prefix (S108470) 357 and have a few questions. Am interested in dating it and a reasonable value. It is all matching, about 85% with non-original stocks. 3-1/2 inch barrel. Sorry, but can't do pix. Thanks for any input. Ron

S108470 probably shipped around May-June 1954 based on nearby SNs on my list.

3-1/2" barrels are desirable - IF original. No pictures is not good. Neither is not having original grips.

Barrel length looks right and has the double pinned front sight. It was a former LEO gun from southern Ohio and the owner put Packmyer stocks on for his police service. Other than the stocks it is a nice example of this iconic S&W. Blue is nice except for the triggerguard where it has turned brown patina probably from holster contact. Thanks for input. I can email photos to someone if they want to post them on the Forum. We have tried to post pix in past with no success. Ron

Nice pickup, Ron!

I'm left wondering if I financed this nice acquisition!

If so, I'm glad to have helped.

You stated you just piked it up and you want reasonable value? Sounds like a nice gun. What did you pay for it?

Hi Jack, Yep, you financed the 357 and just about even money too. Thanks for the help. Ron

Well, we are both happy then! Good use of the dollars on both ends.

BTW - the stocks are already on the revolver that needed them. It looks a lot better.

I have S107785. Do all the serial numbers match? You should find it in the ejector rod housing, the face of the cylinder, under the ejector star, inner face of the yoke (towards the cylinder), and bottom of the grip frame. It would also be on the original magna stocks.

All serial numbers match and it has roughly 75% original blue (I'm not real good about these percentage numbers though) excellent bore and mechanics. Now to find a proper set of stocks for it. I'm leaning toward a nice set of stag if I can't find proper wood grips, but we will see what comes along. Ron

My 357 Magnum SN 151529 came with the Magnas for an earlier gun: might these be correct for Ron's gun?

This one is s/n 99589, and shipped in Sept 1953. That should put Dwalt estimate of spring/summer 54 just about correct.
