Default Grandfathers Revolver

Hello

Well, this is my first post here. I've been lurking here for a little bit and figure Ill give it a shot. I recently received my grandfathers revolver and I am trying to figure out some info on this. I do not plan on selling it but I am also curious on what this this may be worth.

On the yoke there is only a assembly number which consists of 4 numbers that match the frame just above it.

1. The revolver is a Hand Ejector
2. The serial number starts with 191XXX which is also labeled on one of the grips on the inside.
3. Its a 32 Long
4. The barrel length if I remember correctly is 3.5"
5. It has fixed sights

6. The frame has a Strain Screw on the front of the Gripstrap.
7. No Butt Swivel/Lanyard Ring
8. It has 5 screws

I hope I posted this in the correct subsection.

Chris

Welcome to the Forum.

You have a .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903-5th change. It probably shipped around 1914. Cash value of about $225, depending on location.

Due to it belonging to your grandfather-priceless.

The barrel is probably 3 1/4".

Muley Gil pretty much nailed it!

This one, with a 4 1/4" barrel (an inch longer than yours) shipped from the factory in March, 1916. The serial number is 228074, so about 1915 (or possibly 1914) would be about right for yours.

Wow thank you and to @JP@AK for the quick responses.

Question, what do you mean by "5th Change"? Also you are correct about it being a 3 1/4 in barrel.

The finish isnt as good at the other revolver. It spent many years in a safe that probably doesnt keep all the moisture out as my gun safe does.

Collectors refer to engineering changes, like the way the trigger rebounds to the set position. Some changes are major, some are minor. New S&W firearms have the model number stamped, followed by -numbers, such as M10-2. Other changes can be like going from right hand threads on the ejector rod to left hand threads.
