Default 3th Model of 1926 shipped to Jim West in 1940 4 inch Target

Hi
Well its another week how about a 44 Special Target with a Special 4 inch Barrel.
Smith & Wesson in there 1940 Flyer listed the 4 inch target as a special option.
This revolver was shipped 3/27/1940 To Sargent J. M. West of the Davidson County Patrol
Nashville TN. It is the only known 4 inch Target to be made. This is one of my favorite
guns from my collection. This revolver received a special Award at the NRA in 2007.

J.M. West also ordered two Reg. Mags in Nickel in 1938 I will post
one of those later.

Enjoy the story and the pictures

That pre war 1926 target 4" is one of the most attractive revolvers S&W ever made IMHO.

I was wondering whether Sargent was his primary first name (not common, but known) or his rank mis-spelled .

Holy shootin' iron, Batman! That thing is bea-u-ti-ful!

Looks like the "J" in J. M. West is for Joseph.

Found him in the 1940 census.

Lived at 3611 Westbrook Ave in Nashville. The house is still standing. Built in 1920.

Hi Jim,

I think your man is Joseph (or POSSIBLY John) Martin West. (Typically known as Martin West.) The 1940 U.S. Census shows a County Motorcycle Officer, born in early 1909, and living at 3611 Westbrook Ave., City of Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.

He became a deputy around 1935.

His wife at the time (1940), Thelma, was an operator for Southern Bell Telephone.

I'll send along a jpg of the census form... in case you're interested.

Best wishes... BEAUTIFUL GUN!

Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

Thanks to 357Magster and Mr. Wonderfull for your help in the search I displayed this revolver and when some of the Police came by I asked if any of them had any information on Mr West, I was able to get patches from the Nashville dept.
