Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help with the date of manufacture on a S&W Regulation Police .32 long. The serial number is 47815X. It is a 4.5 inch barrel with a blue finished.

That one falls in the 1911 to 1942 range, a 3rd model. The range of s/n are 1911: 263001 to 1942: 536684. I would guess yours might be in the mid thirty's.

# 47815X would have been from ~ 1927 if it has a mushroom shaped extractor rod knob.

If it has a Barrel shaped extractor rod knob, it's from 1928.

If it's the original finish and it's bright blue instead of the satin blue, it's from 1929.

If the barrel is original length, it's 4 1/4". If it's 4 1/2", it's a cut down 6" barrel.

Thanks for the very detailed reply. It has the barrel shaped extractor knob and satin blue original finish. 4 1/4 barrel. It's a strong 98% condition, unfortunately no box etc. Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum....Jeff
