.38 Military & Police Model of 1905 - 4th Change
I think you can also call it a .38/200 BSR but most of the markings have been removed during the refinishing. Now it is chrome (trigger and hammer as well) and not done by Smith&Wesson. Cleaned up nice and the gunsmith now has it. I think it has a new barrel as the chambers have been reamed but the marking on the barrel says 38 Special. Serial numbers match on the cylinder and butt frame and indicate the revolver shipped in Dec 1941.

The barrel would have the SN on the barrel flat on bottom if original. If you are correct that the chambers were reamed, then the barrel is a replacement.

and there is nothing on the barrel flat; just chrome.

and whoever put the new barrel pin in did a horrible job. the ends of the pin have been smashed on both sides. I'll post a photo when I get the gun back.

I have your revolver's Grand Pa. It is also a Model 1905 4th Change. It was shipped from S&W on Nov. 19, 1929 to Allen & Jemison Company which was a hardware store in Tuscaloosa, AL. It was and still is a .38 Special.
Here are a couple of pictures. It has seen some use and has character wear to prove it.

Update on the 1941 Lend Lease revolver I bought back in February. It did ship on Dec/41 and was a Blue finished Lend Lease revolver. If there were any proofs whoever chromed it removed them.
The cylinder ream job was not too good when they (whomever) changed the gun from a .38SW to a .38 special. When firing .38 specials the brass expands and sometimes splits. When firing .38SW the lead is shaved by the forcing cone. I didn't like either results so I was able to find a Victory 5" .38SW barrel (still in cosmoline) and a very good gun smith. He had the barrel chromed and installed it. Now the gun is back to a 5" .38SW (even though the cylinder is reamed out for .38 specials). Tomorrow (Oct 10) I am taking it back to the range to see how the gun performs.

Back from the range. This revolver can shoot. Going to keep it.
Six rounds at 7 yards.
You have to have a ranging shot, right?
