my barbecue rig is usually a nickle Centennial in my back pocket. Simple, yet tasteful and understated.

I like it a lot! Like the detail shot of the grips, too. What I'd really like to see are some photos of the gun. Looking at what I can see of the cylinder and top strap, it appears to have a nice patina...showing that the gun was actually used for something.
Did you letter the gun? If so, any other facts about it?

Nice rig and grips.
The ones I had just never fit right, so I sold them on Ebay.

Dog: I haven't really lettered the gun. It does show wear but the action is like butter. At the SWCA annual symposium in Baton Rouge, Roy Jinks was showing my son SAFireman and I how he researced serials. He gratously looked up the number on this gun and showed that it was shipped to Little Rock in 1951. No documents, just demonstration. Roy's show and tell greatly increased my understanding of the lettering process. I have 2 other 38 M&P snubs: a transitional from 1947 and a Detroit PD from early '48.

Very nice! And lots of character to boot. All that is needed to top it off would be a matching (or as close as possible) belt.

quinn, as you posted, those stocks may not be of everyone, but they do catch the eye. Nice BBQ set up.

They don't show up very often any more. I had been looking for about a year when another forum member listed these--withou picture--in the classified. Ironically, a couple of weeks later at the local gun show I ran across 2 other sets: one for a J RB and the other for a K SB... both showing quite a bit of wear. (But then, this is south Texas. I had been in Mexico a couple of times last year but could find no indication that hese typle grips had been made in years.
The ammo are reloads picked up at a local gun show.

Very cool Randy! I also have a snubby BBQ rig. I've posted this before but your thread begs me to post it again. The gun is a pre-war .38M&P also with a Myers carved holster.

Bill,
Are those stocks ivory? It looks like the S&W monogram is engraved? They are super cool, whatever they are!

Well, the gun is a standard 686+ with a 4" barrel but I did have Dave Workman make the holster for it and I have worn it to a pig hunt, poker game, AND BARBECUE.
All on the same day!
Even if it ain't a snubbie!

You guys ain't foolin' me!! I can see both of you smilin' real big right now!!! Ain't it great to share a love of great old Smith & Wessons? Looks to me like you two have a great thing goin' there .... Good on you both!
BTW, I love those holsters. When I was still not dry behind the ears, I usta see a lot of those and actually had one or two along the way. I wish I knew what ever possessed me to trade 'em for something that I don't even remember now!!

Now, there's a man who understands! You bring your own meat to the BBQ!
So, with that in mind, here's my other snubby BBQ gun (which has been seen before) a "Baby Chief with Ivory boots, Tyler shoe lace and SD Myers pants. The 'persuader' and bracelets round out the proper attire.

I heard a rumor the other day that the mother of pearl dust is terribly toxic, so no more(at least out of the real material).

Aloha,
Another reason to move to Texas.
If I see a pair for sale at a Texas gun show,
How much are they going for?
Yes, not only Mother of Pearl dust is toxic,
but other types of shells also.
My Dad was a local jeweler, mentioned something about dust being bad.
Of course, as a youngster, I didn't listen.
