My "BBQ" Gun Project *** TWO MORE PICS ADDED 03/11***
I picked this up several months ago telling myself ,since the price was good, that I was getting it for the stocks. After the deal was done, I have about $50 in it.
The barrel has been chopped to about 3 1/8 inches and I have absolutely no idea how the finish wound up like that (nickle with flat black paint spots).
I decided this would be the BBQ gun project that I've always wanted. The action is very smooth. (They don't make 'em like they used to. )
Anyway, it has been at my gunsmith since October. He tells me we are almost done. The first thing was to recrown that lopped off barrel. I don't have a "before" pic. Trust me. I'll bet the bullets would've come out sideways. I think my 'smith did a good job.
It was "in the white" when these photos were taken.
It is being blued and should be ready very soon. Here is one last pic...
More to follow.....

I'd guess the stocks are worth what you paid for it. Making a BBQ gun out of it is a great idea! ( what is a BBQ gun anyways?)
As to the finish, I'd just get it parkerized and carry it. Of course chromed and engraved would be more BBQ style I suppose.

Another member picks up a stray dog and hauls it to the vet for health care. That old dog is looking pretty good now.

A hearty welcome to the BBQ Gun Appreciation Fraternity (BBQGAF)! We will anxiously await photos of the finished rig. Are you going for vintage leather or having someone (perhaps on this forum) make you a sleeve? If the finish in the later photos is what was there after you removed the paint... you have knocked it outa the park. Appropriate handles would tie it all together. Rave on!

Love it! Its great to find a cheap old dog and get it going again.
I'm not entirely sure what a BBQ gun is either. Reading that term in context I guess it means a very shiny/plated/bordering on over the top "show off" gun to bring to social gatherings. Am I close? Give us the proper definition.
Glad you took some before photos. Of all the beaters I've brought back to life, I never think to take before pics. My buds usually don't believe me when I tell them how bad it was.

I've already got the holster for it .
Another teaser.... the gun is being blued which may be the only finish that it has never been before!

It'll ride in this Brett Neff floral holster:
That's a Model 67 holding a spot for it.
Best,

The way I heard it, the Texas Rangers provide security for the governor of the state of Texas. They of course have their duty weapons and many have their "BBQ " guns made for when they are on a security detail at a governor hosted party which in Texas is you guessed it, a barbecue! I have seen an actual Texas Rangers BBQ gun as I lived next door to ones mom and her son would come by and we would sometimes converse. The fancier ones are true works of art that many months of pay would go into. I believe Wilson combat even made a Texas Ranger model at one time. Hope this helps(and I hope I'm not wrong) but back to the thread. I really like the rescuing of an old revolver and giving it new life, kinds like it's "retired" and going to take it easy.

I'm a big fan of rescued guns; done a few myself. Can't wait to see the finished project!

Project Guns
Nice piece of leather! She will show off pretty. Project guns have a mystique all their own and are really custom guns for the owner.
