Default Pre-27 with history

An auction that just closed, that we all watch, just sold a pre-27 Nic 3.5" barrel with a lot of history. Which equaled a lot of money.
It is a July 1950 specimen. Who ever the buyer is, got a nice gun and lots of S&W factory history. Just a bit to much money for me.
Im sure he will enjoy the piece. Best

How about a link to the auction, seeing as it has ended it's not against the rules. I was watching a model 45-2 engraved that was bid up well north of $10k..and it didn't sell. Amazing the prices on auctions.

$4125. Once ordered and owned by a S&W executive, who was a champion pistol shot in the hay day after the War. Worth of history? I dont know, Im a shooter. Well worth the money, if you collect this type of gun.

That seems a reasonable price to me for a collector.

(It is just crazy to me that I sold a Colt Python manufactured in 2003 or so for more than that a couple of years ago. Hey, I made a handsome profit on that one, but I am still shaking my head over the Python frenzy.)

Where are you reading about its history? I'm not seeing that.

I sold a 5 screw, 3 1/2 inch, blue, absolutely new in the box with all paperwork and tools in the last month for $4,000. A man a couple of hours away showed up with several King guns with Ropers. He knew what he was looking for and made no hesitation.

That is one beautiful gun. Outstanding pinned barrel and front sight, let alone the rest of the gun. One of the nicest I believe I have laid eyes on. Thanks for sharing.

I agree on the price of that Pre 27, condition is everything.

For me, the bloom is off the rose when it comes to Pythons. Sure, they are nice guns, but to quote my friend John Taffin, "The only thing wrong with a Colt is that it is not a Smith & Wesson."

I sold an NIB 3-1/2" 5 years ago "sight unseen" for $3000.00.

When the buyer heard it was complete and NIB he just said ship it to me without even seeing pictures of it. It must have been worth a whole lot more than $3000.00 for him to do that!!!!

I have another 98% 3-1/2" in the box from 1956 with all target options, complete with NOX rust paper, tools and Helpful Hints. I was going to sell it for $3000.00 last month, but I'm raising my price now.

Default Pre 27

I bought that gun from JTD and I was shocked to find the action and timing like new for having shipped in early 1950. It was not fired much at all. I may sell it though as I have a few other early guns and JTD has an upcoming auction on a 1911 I would love to own but may be a budget buster. Kelly in Utah
