Model 34 (No Dash)
Good Morning,
I am being offered a S&W Model 34 as trade. The owner said there is no dash # on the Yoke. Serial # is 25617. I am posting the 2 photos that I have. Can someone help determine the Date of Manufacture and approximate value?
Thank You,
Jerry

Model of 1953 22/32 Kit Gun or "Pre-Model 34" is what you have. With that serial number there should be no model number on the yoke. According to 4th edition of SCofS&W mid fifties production on this one.
There is a post on the 1961 to 1980 where first known model marked 34s started in the mid 36000 range. Neat Kit Gun by the way.

It looks to be in fairly nice condition, and values on these (especially the 2") are getting up there. I have seen them going from $500 up to $800, depending on where you may be located. You may want to check on Gunbroker, (Completed sales only), and see what you see they have been selling for.

Since it's reportedly stamped Mod 34 it's built on the 1953 New I frame and is the 3 screw side plate variation.
Although it's serial # normally would indicate it shipped around the end of 1956, it couldn't have shipped until after 1957 to be stamped M34. And is one of those anomalies we call a late shipper for it's low serial #.
I agree with the value posted above.

Serial number range M60001-M99999, 1973 to 1977 according to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, 4th Edition. Extrapolation of your M67996 would be late 1973 or early 1974 but that's just my guess. Other members here often have developed their own serial number data bases and may be able to give you a better answer.

Russ,
That's a beauty Russ and a square grip 2".
But It's a J frame not an I frame, therefore a Model 34-1
