Default Added Targets to the K22

Added Target Grips to the new to me K22 this morning. They fit well and thanks to Jebus537745 tip to lightly sand the inside lip where it meets the side plates so I don't damage the finish due to rough edges. Thanks Larry!

They feel great for shooting but will have to adjust to the looks.

Do you realize you have a rare K-22/40 there ?

Proper stocks would be Pre war Magnas or service grips....the imitation S&W targets fill the hand but are tripping the OCD meter to full tilt

Yes sir I do. But I want to shoot it and that's what I going to do.
It's easy to change out the stocks when the wallet permits.

Spitdog Hopefully no offense was taken by my comment,
The K-22/40 is a very rare bird that doesnt pop its head up very often and
when they do are 3 times what other K-22's sell for.

Very neat gun

No offense taken at all, I understand the rarity and the collectors point of view. Eventually It will be correct, I just can't stand looking at it and not shooting it a little. To me the value is not what it's worth, but the enjoyment of owning and using it.

The K-22/40 is a great corner piece for the ultimate K-22 collection as its arguably the most difficult and expensive one to find.

If you are more into shooting than collecting I would consider putting her up for sale and buy a K-22 in 4", another in 6" and another in 8 3/8" with enough left over for a J frame 22 as well....

I would be afraid of accidentally bulging the barrel or breaking the hammer and finding out no replacements are available turning a $3k gun into $300 in parts ... ..But thats my paranoia talking

Great Gun !

Yep, that's a good Point. I don't plan on making this a regular shooter, but I do want to shoot it to satisfy my desire to do so.
Eventually,I will end up with period correct grips, a letter from Roy maybe even a period correct box and a 1940's sales brochure. The hunt will become part of the fun and challenge I suppose.

Not to start a fire storm, but a question? How many barrels have you bulged or broken a hammer? I know 49 is a big shooter and use to be a friend? Wink

It's a S&W 22 shipped in 1940 before the war. Only 1067 were made before S&W stopped production to concentrate on the war effort. I think they were only made for a year or so. Its also called the Masterpiece.

You can usually buy an a original ad for about 8 bucks on ebay. Put it in a plastic sleeve.

The gun looks good with the targets on it. Hate to see the blue get marred from the target grips, the magnas won't cover it up. Gotta keep that gun nice. We will, need a range report. Larry

Thanks Larry,
Yea the targets are definitely not permanent just wanted to shoot it a little and they fit my hand nicely. They were cheap and they actually look better than the pics, the pics make them look like there made of plastic. Don't worry about those pics you were going to send if it's problem. I will touch base with you when I can afford too. Thanks Larry.
