Default My New Favorite the K22

Took possession of this late 1950 Target Masterpiece a few months ago for a steal and hadn't had the time for a test session until today. Amazed to say the least. At 10 yards with a stiff Kansas cross wind I was clover leafing the paper in SA. Trust me , I'm not that good. So impressed that I finally decided to take and post a few pics here for the first time. (Pics taken at the range , smudges powder burns and all) Truth be told I've been feeling a little guilty ogling everybody else's Smiths and not sharing with the group. As time allows I will start posting more pics.
This Forum has been a great place to gain knowledge for my addiction. Thanks all.

Thumbs up

Welcome to the club! I think almost everybody finds out they have a new favorite when they get a K-22. For me it's a mix of the only accurate guns are interesting thing, along with the feeling of handling a classic that can still TCOB, along with the relaxed pace of using a revolver.

+1 on the stocks, they add a bit of functional style without being flashy.

Nothing beats a good .22, I still don't understand why people don't own at least one .22 rifle and handgun, Of course, there are a lot of things I don't understand.

Those grips on your K22 would like mighty fine on one of my S&W's.

Congrats on scoring a K22 at a "steal" of a price. Not easy to do. And I agree about the grips making the gun. That's the only knock I have for my K22, I don't shoot it anywhere near it's potential with the Magna stocks. But to find a hand filling stock worthy of that pistol is going to be a chore.

Yours is beautiful! Absolutely one of my all-time favorites, and has been since I owned my first one back in the late '50's..... Two in the stable now, and always room for more.

They are Fitz grips. I have not seen another pair like these and have been looking since December after getting this pair on the K22. With slightly larger than average sized hands these are perfect. Ill get some detail pics up soon.

Are they marked Fitz? I was going to guess Sanderson or Herritt grips.

I really like Grips.
That is by far the nicest set of Fitz I recollect seeing.
Really like the checking and pattern.

I'd love to shoot it once....Like so many other guns.
This is my favorite K 22.
I'd take this one to the grave if I wasn't depriving someone else.

Default Fitz Grips Detail

Here are some pics of the Fitz stocks. If anybody has another set like this for a "K" I would like to purchase for a reasonable price. Would love to have a set for my 14-2.

Didn't realize fitz made the right stock thicker for the hand.
Or even that they offered rosewood.

Nice grips. Its very enjoyable using a set of grips that feel great in the hand and do not look like mass production.

Nice S&W and as everyone else has said, nice grips as well. You don't see aftermarket grips of that era in Rosewood very often.

Judging by everyone's interest in the grips , it seems unlikely that another set will be easy to find. The only other sets like this that I can find any info on were posted on this forum a few years ago. Interesting that all three sets have unique checking.

5” K38 & FITZ stocks
and
fitz grips . . . the wood “semi-target” type

Makes the $450.00 I have in this package all the more sweeter I guess.

What I find very interesting is the similarities to S&W target stocks.
Even the disks in them.
Which came first is something I'd like to know.

Default I picked up a K-22 yesterday.

Easily a ninety percent gun. I have had my eye out for one for a while. This one showed up for a decent price and I jumped on it.
Grips number to the gun. Serial # K 618XX. Can you guys give a date on this one.

The pictures for some reason make it look rougher than it really is, not sure why.
