Default Victory model??

I have a S&W .38 special, inherited from my father and grandfather. I'm guessing it's a Victory model since the serial num. is V54XXX, stamped on the bottom of the grip, on the cylinder, and under the barrel. Also stamped on the swing arm, and just above it on the frame are the #'s 99354. Not sure what those numbers represent. It has smooth walnut grips, a dull blued finish, and no model # on it anywhere. If anyone can help me further identify it, I would be grateful.
Thanks.

Check whether that matching V number is also stamped into the back of the right grip panel. The wooden stocks are the most common occurrance of parts not matching, but if they do, it enhances your gun's value somewhat.

From the very helpful sticky at the top of this page , " To INDENTIFY your Gun" ---
"If there is NO Model number behind the yoke, there is probably NOTHING we need from back there!
The assembly number which does NOT match the serial number on the butt is USELESS to us.
DON'T even tell us what it is.
We DON'T want to know! "
