K-22 OD gets a letter and some range time
A while back I picked up a nice (aka scruffy) K-22 OD with King sights, I was hoping it would letter with the King sights, but it did not.
My K-22 OD 647545 shipped on July 20th, 1934 and was delivered to C.M. Taylor, Acting Superintendent, State Highway Patrol, Springfield, IL in a shipment of 14 units. Looks like the King sights were added after it left the factory.
The snow has finally melted enough so I can get to my favorite pit, it was pretty nice in VT today, so I took the OD out to shoot some pins. We dicided to shoot from 40 paces (you can just see the pins in the background). I was connecting about 50% of the time at approx 40yards.

It that's scruffy, then I'll take scruffy any day!
Nice info on the letter, my imagination sez the order was for a State Trooper shooting team.
I don't think my eyes could handle hitting a white target against a white background at 25 yds, gonna give thumbs up for your performance. So does that mean you'd need two shots per rabbit instead of one?

double luck o.d.
my o.d.(#639259) came to me about 2 years back. as it had a bad case of pushoff and ivory grips i made a low ball offer and ended up owning it. the pushoff was the result of a very inexpert "trigger job" that left the hammer beyond redemption. i went online to Gun Parts Corp. and low and behold, they had a humpback hammer listed, which was out of stock when i ordered. a week later i found what must have been the same hammer on gunbroker. i had to give a hundred for it instead of the forty that gun parts wanted.
a few weeks ago a fellow who is the husband of the widow (seller once removed) walked into my shop with the original grips which were in perfect condition. i gave up another hundred. i'm now waiting for the tooth fairy to deliver the box.

The box will probably cost you more than the gun, crazy right?

Yes, I would agree on the shooting team theory, why else would they need 14 K22 OD's in one shipment? Training or target?
Yes, I would need two shots per rabbit :-)
The white pins were more visible (especially with the King sights) than the picture would suggest, easy to hit at 40 yds
I’m 6-4” and my pace is a solid 36”

And scruffy (per Ralph T.) is anything less than 97%...

Gun looks really nice with the King drop in sights. Just bought a drop in set myself and wondering what gunsmith to trust that can change these out. Are there any signs the pin has ever been pushed out?

Not only the box is big$$$, but the SAT and cleaning rod will run over $1,000. I have a letter on my 1937OD and it doesn't tell you anything except where it was shipped. No other info provided. Big Larry

Thought it was the cheaper nickel SAT? I know the prewar kitgun sat was pricey. Now the Cleaning rod i have no idea what that looks like or what its going to run.

Sounds like a collector, not a shooter.
Now I know "scruffy":
Well, scruffy with new shoes, anyway.

My 1931 K22 became my daughter's first pistol shot last week. She's not strong enough for double action with it just yet.

It takes the pre war SAT. The one with the very small blade. The cleaning rod is just wrapped wire with a loop on the end. When I bought my 1937 OD, the revolver was drippy mint in its original box. It had a hole punched through the tape with the serial number and was hard to read, but it did number to the gun. The seller asked and got his price for it, but did not include the tools. They were another $1,500. I passed on that. I have seen the SAT's go for $1,000. So, I am SATless. The revolver is quite nice though. Big Larry
