So I have a question that I haven't been able to get a definite answer on and I am wanting to get a better answer on. I have a S&W 32 long with a 6" barrel and I have a couple boxes of 32 S&W that are I guess 32 shorts? they are definitely shorter than the one box of 32 long rounds. they are the same diameter round and I've heard that the shorts will fire just fine through the gun but I am a little nervous about trying it. it seems like its not a good idea to have the bullet travel through the cylinder with the short rounds? any thoughts on this to ease my mind?

You can shoot either round . If you shoot the 32 S&W and then want to shoot the long , you may have to clean the cylinders for the long cartridges to fully insert.

Just like shooting a .22 Short in a .22 LR chamber. There is no .32 S&W Short (just .32 S&W), but there is a .32 S&W Long.

Not a problem. Those 32 S&W rounds are lower pressure as well as shorter than 32 S&W Long.

They will work just fine punching paper.

You could probably even defend your home from an attack by a group of hamsters with them.

Just to continue along this line of thought, the 32 ACP round is semi-rimless so it CAN also be used in the 32 S&W Long chamber, but some debate occurs over whether it is a good idea or not. If I were running low on ammo and didn't have time to hit the loading bench, I would definitely exercise this option to keep shooting. Just for the sake of enlightenment I took my Prolect 616 (K-frame 327 FM) and shot it one cylinder after another with 32 ACP, 32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R, and 327 FM. Although it worked fine, I wouldn't expect pinpoint accuracy or even similar POI with the widely disparate ammo variants, but it will work and go bang.
