Default Help with a Date/ Info

I have a S&W Hand ejector with SN on the butt 39163, 38 S&W Special U.S. Service CTG's, Barrel length 6 1/2", fixed sights. It appears to have a strain screw and is a 4 screw.

Any help on the date or other info is appreciated.

Thanks,

Shawn

I'll wait for someone with their book handy, but it is early. Maybe 1902. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

You appear to have a Model of 1902, First change, likely from 1903/04.

The caliber inscription refers to the fact that it also fits the .38 Colt which at the time was the US military round (and a reasonably popular civilian caliber).

#21898 shipped August 8, 1902------#59794 shipped February 26, 1906-----yours somewhere in between-------more than likely.

Ralph Tremaine

And yes, it's a 4 screw; but to avoid confusing some folks-----call it a "pre 5 screw 4 screw"-----which may very well confuse some other folks. And if you're familiar with the disassembly of a 5 screw, watch out if/when you tackle this one!
