Default 32 long hand ejector

my grandfather gave me this gun before he died, would like info on it. (value, manufacture date, etc..) any info on gun would be helpful here is the info you need. The serial number might be S 9478. The last 4 are in a different font than the 5 or S. hard to tell. Gun has little to no bluing left.

Type: hand ejector
Serial #: 59478
caliber: 32 Long ctg
Barrel Length: 6"
Fixed Sights
Strain screw: Yes
5 screw

Welcome to the Forum.

Sorry to hear of your loss. If the SN is 59478, you have a .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903-2nd Change and would date to 1906-1909. Hang on to it; family guns are very special.

The serial number should be on the butt, the rear of the cylinder and on the underside of the barrel. The barrel SN will have a "B" prefix if it shipped with a blue finish.

Thanks. what did the 2nd change consist of? is it the change to double action. yes mine does have the B prefix. This gun aint going anywhere. I was also able to find a box of vintage 1905 ammo for it. kinda cool.

Welcome. The 32 Hand Ejector was originally designed as a double action solid frame gun, dating back to the Model 1896. there were several small internal changes made to the gun, but no changes to the exterior that are visible.

The B is not really a prefix to the serial number and is only marked to indicate the gun was to be blued and not nickel finished at the factory before assembly.

Welcome to the forum.

That's a great heirloom you have.

If the last patent date on the barrel is Feb. 8, '06, it has the newer trigger return spring and hammer rebound slide for safety. You can see a small pin on the left side of the frame just in front of the grip top.
