Default Early Post-War M&P Value Question

Normally I can sort out the value of guns, this one has me a bit stumped though. I just can't find any comparables.

Outside of it being very early post-war, and having the pre-war style stocks on it, anything noteworthy about it I should be aware of?

Originally I bought it because I noticed the pre-war Magnas (which do number to the gun by the way). The problem is that it's kind of too nice for me and I've never really done anything with it. Figured it should go in my "trade fodder pile", thus the question of value.

Any opinion on what this particularly uncommon little example of post war S&Ws is worth?

The closest I can come to your s/n is S814513. That is a blue, 5" barrel which shipped 3/46. I also show an SV810706 shipping 3/46.

JP@AK will be all over your questions should he happen to see the post.

Yep. They were using left over Victory Model frames at that point, and plugging the lanyard hole. As I understand it at least.

Almost certainly shipped in March, 1946. I own two with nearby serial numbers and they both left Springfield that month. They also have the prewar style Magna stocks. Pretty much all of those were used up that first month of regular shipments after the war. Only a few were shipped with those stocks in April; after that, nothing but stocks with the postwar style checking.

It looks to be in excellent shape and has the desirable 5" barrel and a LERK. Plus the pre-war Magnas. I would think you could get $600 from anyone who knows S&W's.

I'd agree, certainly north of $500 with the pre-War Magna grips which are very desirable all by themselves. Not sure if they have been refinished, I'd guess they have been.

They have a light coat of varnish on them, for some reason, always assumed someone applied that later, a long time ago (it's clearly been on there a while). I just never had any others to compare it to really.
