What cleaning kit is this?
Still factory sealed, no SAT so I assume for a fixed sight gun. But I've never seen the looped jag for patch in a factory kit before

Kris I have box full of cleaning kits from several different generations of S&W's. All are from the factory and sealed, never seen one like that.

Kris,
You said: "But I've never seen the looped jag for patch in a factory kit before."
You didn't say anything about the bag and neither did I.
The looped tip is from the early to mid '50s factory tool kits.
The looped tip apparently overlapped with the bag period; maybe for a very short time. When was the bag introduced?
Tool kit for 1950 44 Military s/n 142XXX, 1955
I also have a 1950 44 Target from 1956 with the looped tip my dad bought new.

I've never before seen one paired with a gun from the 1950's, or ever obtained a loose tool kit (with a period box) that had one in it. So, I'm a bit skeptical. I have bought some 50s tool kits still wrapped in the brown tissue paper inside boxes as well and still haven't ran into one. I think it seems like something that would have been added by the owner to use patches and not supplied by the factory. As far as I know and from what I have seen and read, 50s era guns cane with a rod mop and brush, and SAT if a target model.
This kit I have probably dates to the late 60s and is the only one I have personally seen.

Ebay. I see these fatory looking kits from time to time. As far as I know, S&W kits never came with a patch swab.
